Temp to Hire The Survey Technician supports land surveying and engineering projects through field data collection, construction staking, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and office drafting support. This position works closely with survey crews, project managers, engineers, contractors, and public agencies to ensure accurate survey information is collected, processed, and delivered in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Field Responsibilities
- Perform construction staking for roadway, utility, grading, drainage, rail, and infrastructure projects.
- Assist with boundary, ALTA, topographic, and as-built surveys.
- Operate survey equipment including
GPS/GNSS
receivers, robotic total stations, data collectors, and digital levels.
- Locate and document existing improvements, utilities, monuments, and site features.
- Set hubs, lath, pins, and control points in varying terrain and weather conditions.
- Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, and electronic records.
- Verify survey control and elevations for construction accuracy.
- Coordinate with contractors and project personnel regarding layout and staking needs.
- Follow company safety procedures and traffic control requirements while working in active construction environments. Office Responsibilities
- Download and process field data.
- Prepare survey calculations, staking reports, cut sheets, and quantity information.
- Assist with drafting survey deliverables using CAD software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D or Carlson.
- Prepare exhibits, base maps, and survey figures.
- Organize project files and maintain survey documentation.
- Review plans and specifications to understand project scope and staking requirements. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in surveying, engineering technology, geomatics, or related field preferred.
- 1-5 years of surveying or construction staking experience preferred.
- Basic understanding of land surveying principles and construction layout procedures.
- Ability to read engineering plans, specifications, and legal descriptions.
- Experience with GPS and robotic total station equipment.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Preferred Software and Equipment Experience
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Faro Software Suite
- Trimble equipment
- Data collectors and machine control systems
- Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, Autodesk Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to work around heavy equipment, traffic, and active construction operations. Desired Skills
