A Surveyor measures the surface of the Earth and collects data used to make maps, set boundaries, and determine the shape and contour of sections of land. Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.

The selected candidate for this posting will work alongside Compass' Professional Surveyor and field crew and be responsible for supporting the field survey data collection, survey basemapping, right-of-way plan development, legal description and exhibit preparation, document research, field pack preparation and boundary resolution under the direct supervision of a Professional Surveyor. The candidate will be required to coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team for data collection/delivery along with working in a variety of CADD platforms and various locations with light travel.Technical Responsibilities will include:
- Preparation of survey basemaps, drawings, layouts, sketches, maps, and graphic representations of engineering designs using a variety of CADD platforms
- Preparation of right-of-way plans, exhibits, legal descriptions, spreadsheets
- Participate in field work including survey data collection, deed research, and court house work
- Ensure quality by implementing Compass's quality control procedures
- Learn new skills under the direction of the Professional Surveyor and other Senior staff members
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering with Surveying course work or equivalent
- To have a Survey Intern certificate from the State of Ohio or the ability to obtain one within 12 months
- 0 to 4 years of experience in CADD applications such as Civil3D, Bentley OpenRoad designer, Trimble TBC
- Experience with OpenRoad Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required
- Perform tasks and use problem solving skills independently with some oversight and assistance
- Strong organizational skills and sound judgement in establishing priorities for project work
- Willingness to be flexible and learn new skills
- Cooperative, team-oriented spirit
- Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
