Job Description

Description of Conveyor Belt Surveyor The Conveyor Belt Surveyor is responsible for conducting on-site conveyor belt surveys at customer and distributor locations to support the sales organization, strengthen customer relationships, and identify opportunities for belt replacement, service, and technical support. This role works closely with outside sales, inside sales, distributors, technical teams, and customers to gather accurate field information, document belt and conveyor conditions, and provide the data needed to develop recommendations, quotes, and long-term sales opportunities. Key Responsibilities Conduct conveyor belt surveys at customer and distributor sites, including inspection of conveyor systems, belt condition, belt specifications, splices, covers, tracking, wear patterns, damage, and operating conditions. Collect and document accurate field measurements, including belt width, length, carcass type, cover gauges, pulley diameters, take-up information, troughing angle, conveyor layout, and other relevant application details. Identify current belt issues, potential failure points, maintenance concerns, and opportunities for improved belt performance or replacement. Support the sales organization by providing detailed survey reports, photos, measurements, and technical information needed to prepare quotes, recommendations, and customer follow-up. Work alongside sales representatives and distributors to support customer visits, site reviews, product recommendations, and business development opportunities. Assist in identifying additional sales opportunities during site visits, including replacement belts, lagging, splicing materials, accessories, service work, or other related products. Communicate professionally with customers, distributors, and internal teams while representing the company in a knowledgeable and service-focused manner. Document site findings clearly and timely using company-approved tools, templates, CRM systems, or reporting platforms. Collaborate with Technical, Application Engineering, Inside Sales, Customer Service, and Operations as needed to ensure accurate belt recommendations and customer solutions. Support customer and distributor training by sharing observations, basic product knowledge, and best practices related to conveyor belt selection, operation, and maintenance. Maintain awareness of safety requirements at customer sites and follow all company and customer safety policies, including PPE, lockout/tagout requirements, and site-specific procedures. Travel up to 50% domestically and internationally to customer and distributor locations as required. Qualifications Technical, mechanical, industrial, or engineering-related education or certification preferred. Experience with conveyor belts, material handling systems, mining, aggregates, bulk handling, industrial maintenance, field service, or a related industry preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand conveyor systems, belt construction, and application conditions. Ability to accurately measure, inspect, document, and communicate technical field information. Comfortable working in industrial environments, including plants, mines, quarries, terminals, and other customer operating sites. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, distributors, sales teams, and technical personnel. Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining strong alignment with the sales organization. Proficiency with basic technology, including mobile devices, photos, email, reporting tools, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office. Overnight Domestic and International Travel up to 50% Valid Passport without restrictions and Driver's License Preferred Skills and Experience Prior conveyor belt surveying, belt installation, splicing, maintenance, or field service experience. Knowledge of conveyor belt products, covers, carcass types, splicing methods, pulley systems, and common belt failure modes. Experience supporting sales, distributors, or customer-facing technical service activities. Ability to identify customer needs and communicate potential opportunities to the sales team. Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through. Physical Requirements Ability to walk customer sites, climb stairs and ladders, access conveyor areas, and work in industrial environments. Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and take measurements in and around conveyor systems. Ability to wear required PPE and comply with all customer and company safety requirements. Ability to travel by vehicle or air as needed.
