Job Description
The Survey Crew Chief will lead a field survey crew, plan and execute daily survey activities, and ensure the accuracy and completeness of topographic, boundary, ALTA, and construction-related surveys. Responsibilities include operating and overseeing survey instruments, collecting and recording field data, interpreting plans and specifications, and coordinating with project managers and office staff. The role involves verifying field measurements, maintaining survey equipment, following safety protocols, and documenting work according to company and client standards. The Survey Crew Chief will also help train crew members, resolve field challenges, and support efficient project delivery for a range of civil and land development projects. We're looking for candidates with the following qualifications: Proficiency in land surveying practices, including Boundary Surveys and ALTA Surveys. Experience performing Topographic Surveys and related construction layout or site surveys. Handson skill with modern survey instruments, including Total Station and related data collection equipment. Knowledge of survey principles, coordinate systems, and applicable state and local survey standards. Previous experience leading or supervising a survey field crew is strongly preferred. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, plats, and legal descriptions. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accurate field documentation. Ability to work outdoors in varying field conditions and safely lift, carry, and set up equipment. Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members, project managers, and clients. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record for operating company vehicles. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or an associate degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field is a plus. SurveyorinTraining (SIT) certification or progress toward professional licensure is beneficial.
