Job Description

Job Title:
Registered Land Surveyor Job Description We are seeking a Registered Land Surveyor (PLS) to support land development, infrastructure, and commercial projects throughout the Knoxville and East Tennessee region. This individual will lead survey projects from planning through delivery, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and coordination across field and office teams. The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of licensed survey experience in boundary, topographic, and construction surveys, along with the ability to manage projects and mentor junior staff. Responsibilities Oversee and manage land surveying projects including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction surveys. Review and certify survey deliverables such as plats, legal descriptions, calculations, and reports. Supervise field data collection and survey operations, ensuring accuracy and quality control. Establish and verify property boundaries, elevations, and control points for construction and development projects. Coordinate with field crews, project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure project alignment with scope, schedule, and budget. Conduct boundary and retracement surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, and topographic mapping. Utilize survey software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble) for data processing and drafting. Perform QA/QC on survey data and deliverables to maintain compliance with state and industry standards. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to survey technicians and junior staff. Support client communication, proposals, and business development efforts as needed. Essential Skills Active Tennessee Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license (or ability to obtain quickly). 4+ years of progressive licensed surveying experience (field + office). Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred. Strong understanding of surveying principles, legal descriptions, and state/local regulations. Experience with Boundary & ALTA/NSPS Surveys, Topographic surveys, Construction staking/layout. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and/or Trimble software. Proven ability to manage projects, schedules, and budgets. Strong communication and client-facing skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting commercial, DOT, or heavy civil projects. Experience in utility, roadway, or site development surveying. Demonstrated experience leading survey crews or managing teams. High attention to detail and precision in measurements and calculations. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Leadership and team development. Knowledge of modern surveying technology (GPS, drones, LiDAR preferred). Work Environment The role involves a combination of field and office work with regional travel within East Tennessee, primarily in the Knoxville area. The candidate will be exposed to outdoor conditions and active construction sites. The office is located in Knoxville. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $165000.00/yr.
