A Surveyor measures the surface of the Earth and collects data used to make maps, set boundaries, and determine the shape and contour of sections of land. Uses global positioning system (GPS) and global information system (GIS) technology to make measurements. May specialize in measurements to determine airspace boundaries; may conduct marine or hydrographic surveys to measure bodies of water and determine shorelines and water flow and depth.

The primary function of the Surveyor will be to perform assignments utilizing survey software and GPS equipment.
The Role:
Set up GPS base station where needed and check equipment precision. Directly complete field surveys, construction staking, layouts, etc. Use surveying instruments and tools to layout line and grade for structures and earth work using the companies survey standards. Perform quality control checks, ensuring that proper compliance with the construction drawings and specifications are met. Perform survey and necessary calculations and provide documentation for pay applications. Maintain survey equipment. Learn job-related material, primarily through oral instruction and observation. Various other duties as assigned by management.
Work Environment:
Walk, bend, kneel, lift, stretch and sit. Work outside in all weather conditions. Effectively handle lifting and moving various objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Look For:
Individuals who work safely and have the courage to speak up if you see unsafe behavior or conditions. 3-5 years of heavy civil construction experience in a full-time Surveyor role. Proficient use of Topcon, Trimble and/or Leica technology. Possess knowledge of the principles and practices of civil construction. Ability to read and interpret topographic surveys, project drawings and other project related documentation. Valid driver's license. Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
