Griffin Infrastructure, based in Greensboro, is a leading heavy civil contractor specializing in complex projects such as pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, large-scale technology campuses, and industrial warehousing sites throughout the Carolinas and Virginia. The Survey Crew Chief role is a key part of the team, providing essential field support for construction operations using advanced technology like GPS machine control and drone surveys. This position offers the opportunity to work independently on high-profile projects across the Roanoke to Richmond corridor in Virginia, with consistent assignments on D.H. Griffin Infrastructure projects. Crew Chiefs benefit from a stable work environment, a knowledgeable team, and the chance to contribute directly to the success of major construction initiatives. Responsibilities Perform construction layout and stakeout for site civil work, including grading, curb and gutter, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, retaining walls, and related utilities. Conduct as-built verification to ensure accurate recording of installed improvements. Collect field data using Trimble robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, and digital levels. Perform drone-based photogrammetry surveys for quantity tracking and site documentation. Carry out site calibrations and provide additional project support services as needed. Train construction crews in the proper use of survey equipment and data collectors. Adhere to company Safety Program and Quality Management Plan procedures on every project. Work independently in the field while communicating effectively with project managers, superintendents, and foremen. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience as a survey crew chief or instrument operator on construction projects. Hands-on experience with construction layout for curb, utilities, grading, and site work. Proficiency with Trimble equipment, including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, and Trimble Access. Ability to work independently across a regional territory, with some overnight travel (under 30%); per diem provided for overnight stays. Valid state driver's license. Ability to obtain an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (drone operator license). Associate's degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Comfortable working on active construction sites and communicating with field teams. Adaptable and able to manage multiple active projects across a wide territory.
Preferred:
Familiarity with Trimble Business Center, Siteworks, or other Trimble office and field software.
Preferred:
Experience with UAS/drone photogrammetry for construction quantity surveys.
