  • August 13, 2027. Fellows in this position commit to a 40-hour work week, Monday
  • Friday, approximately 8AM
  • 5PM, with occasional evening and weekend commitments based on project needs. 170-340 of these hours are dedicated to professional development. This is a hybrid position, onsite 4 days per week.

—— About the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship The California Climate Action Corps has over 400 positions available across California for the 2026-27 CCAC Fellowship. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders. These are paid, full-time fellowships—similar to internships—with 170-340 dedicated hours for professional development and training, providing hands-on experience in the climate field. CCAC Fellows are matched with organizations across California to mobilize communities to take direct climate action and lead projects focused on wildfire resiliency, urban greening, and organic waste diversion. ——— Applications are accepted May 1

——— Program Benefits Collaborating with CSUN provides a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on local climate action while being part of a community-focused initiative. Fellows will benefit from mentorship, professional development opportunities, and networking in the higher education sustainability sector. Fellows will gain professional experience in climate education, environmental stewardship, community outreach, and volunteer engagement while making a measurable impact in areas such as edible food recovery, composting, defensible space, and ecosystem restoration. CSUN offers a dynamic organizational culture committed to fostering positive environmental change and addressing crucial issues at the intersection of education, climate action, volunteerism, and community engagement. CSUN Fellows will have the opportunity to interact with many CSUN employees and students to build relationships, develop leadership skills, and network based on their interests post-fellowship.

Receive a $35,250 stipend (before taxes) distributed evenly over the 11-month service term Receive $10,000 in education awards (before taxes and upon completion of 1700 hours) Participation in 170-340 hours of training and professional development Receive $300 in professional development funds Receive food assistance via CalFresh (for those eligible) Forbearance on existing qualifying student loans and interest payments accrued during the service term Minimum essential healthcare coverage Childcare assistance (for those eligible) Description of Duties CSU Northridge is committed to advancing climate action and sustainability on campus and in the community. Six Climate Action Fellows will collaborate across 5 integrated focus areas: (1) edible food recovery and waste reduction—implementing strategies in high-impact zones such as dining halls, events, and housing; sorting and redistributing surplus food from campus and partners like Food Forward and MEND; leading large-scale recovery events; and supporting equitable distribution to the CSUN community; (2) organic waste diversion and composting—expanding food scrap collection, managing the on-site compost facility, and engaging students in hands-on education that connects waste reduction to soil health, carbon sequestration, daily habits; (3) urban greening and native habitat restoration—propagating, planting, and distributing trees and native plants through CSUN's G.A.R.D.E.N. and in surrounding neighborhoods while facilitating volunteer planting events and expanding climate-beneficial green spaces; (4) wildfire resilience and fire-adapted landscapes—leading brush clearance, removal of fire-prone invasive species, home hardening education, and educational installations that model fire-wise landscaping; and (5) climate engagement and volunteer mobilization—coordinating campaigns, service events, and partnerships that activate students in measurable, hands-on climate solutions. Together, Fellows will foster climate action, sustainability, and resilience at CSUN and beyond. Duties include, but aren't limited to: Lead community-driven, hands-on climate action events, engaging volunteers in wildfire resiliency, edible food recovery, tree and native plantings, and composting Coordinate and mobilize volunteers to engage the campus and broader community in climate action for urban greening, edible food recovery, composting, and wildfire resiliency opportunities Develop and distribute content to engage and educate the campus and broader community about climate action for digital and print formats, including social media, website, flyers, and newsletters Educate and engage the campus and broader community on topics such as urban greening, edible food recovery, composting, and wildfire resilience through tabling, presentations, events, and workshops Track program data and analyze results to quantify climate impact Minimum Program Eligibility Requirements Live in California by August 14, 2026 Be at least 18 years of age by August 14, 2026 Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate Preferred Qualifications/Skills Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, and experience in community outreach, composting, data/quantitative analysis, diverse outdoor conditions (rain, wind, heat, steep or uneven terrain), edible food recovery, engaging with K-12 students, environmental education, environmental justice/equity, event coordination & planning, graphic design, home hardening/defensible space, landscape management, marketing & social media, Microsoft Office Suite & Teams, multi-stakeholder collaboration, native plant management, project management, public speaking/facilitation, tree planting/care, and volunteer management & engagement. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
