Job Description About the
Role:
We are seeking an Entry-Level PHY Qualification (Qual) Test Engineer to join our innovative and high-energy team. In this role, you will be responsible for hands-on testing, validation, and performance analysis of physical layer (PHY) components, ensuring our products meet the company's quality standards and industry benchmarks. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the development of next-generation Ethernet switches for Enterprise and Campus Access/Core segments.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct system performance testing to validate the reliability, capacity, and scalability of Ethernet switches.
  • Work closely with the testing and development teams to create and execute performance test plans and cases.
  • Perform and analyze power test cases, review results, and collaborate with development teams to address bugs and issues.
  • Debug complex system and component-level issues, including those related to CPU, ASICs, FPGAs, and power supplies.
  • Leverage test automation to implement testing strategies and improve productivity using scripting languages like Python.
  • Test products for compliance with internal specifications and industry standards such as
IEEE 802.3.
  • Provide detailed issue mitigation strategies and work cross-functionally to drive issues to closure.
  • Document test plans, procedures, and detailed test reports to track progress and findings.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and support customer escalations related to PHY performance issues.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1+ year of experience in hardware testing or validation (internships/co-op experience considered).
  • Familiarity with test automation tools and scripting languages like Python for planning and script development.
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital voltage meters, phase gain analyzers, and programmable AC sources.
  • Familiarity with Variable Network Analyzers and high-pass/low-pass filters.
  • Experience with Power over Ethernet (PoE) testing and traffic generators like Ixia or Spirent for 10/100/1000 BASE-T.
  • Understanding of signal compliance testing with
IEEE 802.3
standards, working with RJ45 connections and
CAT5E/CAT6A
Ethernet cables.
  • Experience troubleshooting and validating signals, ensuring accurate measurements for product compliance.
