Test Technician Job Description The Test Technician sets up and performs testing activities in partnership with a fast-paced test engineering team, supporting production and engineering groups under the guidance of the Test Engineering Lead. This role focuses on production testing of custom printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and electronic systems while upholding high standards of quality and reliability. The Test Technician plays a key role in achieving program goals by ensuring accurate test execution, clear communication, and meticulous documentation. Responsibilities Perform production testing of custom PCBAs and electronic systems to verify functionality and quality. Set up test equipment and fixtures to conduct system-level and board-level testing according to established procedures. Read and interpret electrical schematics to aid in test setup, execution, and troubleshooting. Use a variety of electronic test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and other specialized test tools. Operate common hand tools such as screwdrivers and tweezers to assemble, adjust, or rework test setups and units under test. Gather, store, retrieve, and analyze test data to support test reports, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities. Provide clear and effective communication on the status of test activities, issues, and progress to the Test Engineering Lead and other stakeholders. Maintain test assets, fixtures, and setups in good working order and ensure they are properly organized and documented. Perform board-level and system-level testing and support troubleshooting activities as needed. Follow and adhere to all applicable manufacturing procedures, test documentation, and quality standards. Establish and maintain an organized laboratory environment, including labeling, storage, and handling of test equipment and units. Adhere to electrostatic discharge (ESD) best practices and ensure proper handling of sensitive electronic components. Collaborate with production and engineering teams to support test readiness, issue resolution, and process improvements. Essential Skills Strong understanding of electrical and electronics engineering concepts applicable to PCBAs and electronic systems. 2-3 years of recent hands-on test lab experience within an aerospace, defense, or space environment. Proficiency with electronic test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and related tools. Ability to read and interpret schematics to support test setup, execution, and troubleshooting. Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for electronic boards and systems, including PCB testing and fault isolation. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical and detail-oriented approach. Hands-on, results-oriented attitude with the ability to complete tasks independently and efficiently. Strong communication skills, including clear oral and written English, to document results and convey test status. Ability to work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines and production personnel. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and productivity tools such as Word and Excel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field is preferred. Experience as a Test Technician with 2-3 years of PCB testing and troubleshooting experience. Board-level and system-level troubleshooting experience is a plus. Familiarity with aerospace or military standards and practices is a plus. Interest in leading teams and progressing to higher levels of responsibility over time. Demonstrated leadership potential and the ability to guide or mentor others in a lab or test environment. Work Environment This role operates in a test laboratory and production environment that supports aerospace, defense, or space-related electronic systems. The Test Technician works closely with a test engineering team and collaborates regularly with production and other engineering disciplines. The environment involves frequent use of electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and specialized fixtures, as well as common hand tools like screwdrivers and tweezers. Work is guided by formal manufacturing procedures, test documentation, and quality standards, with a strong emphasis on ESD-safe practices and careful handling of sensitive electronics. The pace is fast and project-driven, with an expectation of clear communication, organized workspaces, and consistent adherence to established processes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Simi Valley, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
