Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties Under the direction of the Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer (Supervisor), the incumbent performs network engineering technical support for the District's Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and field element communications network. Responsible to propose, plan, design, upkeep, and optimize the TCP/IP field communications network. Manages, analyzes, troubleshoots, and documents the fiber optic and wireless communications network infrastructure for the District. Participates in the diagnosis, isolation, and resolution of network problems. Provides communication system administration and configures parameters for ITS field elements and supporting communication systems that are to be integrated into the Transportation Management Center's (TMC) central system. Working Conditions Position located at 1750 E 4th St., Santa Ana, Orange County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. While at their base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. Incumbent is required to conduct moderate amounts of field work and routinely access field electrical, communication systems and TMS equipment in difficult locations on the freeways and highways. Incumbent may be required to travel within the State to attend meetings and/or training. This position requires visual and color acuity adequate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, willingness to work at odd hours, be available for day or night calls, stay abreast of current technological changes in the fields of electricity and electronics, work up to 550 feet above pavement or water, work in the midst of traffic, and have the ability to withstand working under adverse (e.g., cold, wet, windy) weather conditions. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
