Job Description

This position is located in District 04, Unit 234, in Bossier Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Engineer 6 Project Engineer. This position provides supervision, inspection, and survey activities for all types of major complex highway and bridge construction projects in strict accordance with FHWA and District policies and procedures. Performs the more complex engineering reviews of construction jobs in progress and checks adequacy of supervision given by contractors and architects, materials used, and proper installation and operation of equipment. Reviews plans and specifications for conformance for the Project Engineer. In the Project Engineer's absence, serves as the acting Project Engineer. Assists the Project Engineer in directing and supervising highway and bridge construction inspections, which includes discussing plans, specifications, and work schedules with contractors; resolves conflicts between contractors, inspectors, and public bodies. Reviews and checks plans and specifications submitted by consultant engineers and by district office engineering personnel. Reviews submittals for item substitutions during construction process. Assists in the interviewing process and promotion of sub-ordinates; recommends ratings of lower-level employees through the review or completed work assignments and the techniques used. May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.Position-Specific Details:
