Job Description
This is the Engineer Intern level where incumbents will initially perform a variety of routine engineering tasks in a training status under closer supervision. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides project management services for the roadway and drainage capital projects for the City. Works with the design and construction of private development projects where infrastructure is donated to the City. Works with the City's participation in the LA DOTD bridge inspection program. Provides technical assistance as needed, primarily to the Street and Drainage Division and the Permit Division. Works with the Standard Specifications, Standard Plans, Design Guides, etc. Assist with the operating and capital budgets for the Engineering division. Prepares the five year capital improvements budget for the division. Assist with the network of City survey benchmarks. Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or ability to complete within 6 months. Floodplain Manager Certification through ASFPM or obtain certification within 2 years. Must have a driver's license with an acceptable driving record
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds) May involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station, along with some combination of climbing and balancing; requires visual perception and discrimination; requires ability to communicate orally. Job must be performed with or without accommodations.WORK ENVIRONMENT
Tasks require infrequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Working around and with machinery having moving parts, heavy dust and loose particles. Working at heights and low areas. Driving a vehicle to conduct work.Travel:
Extensive travel and driving will be required locally from location to location to accomplish job assignments and visit job sites.NORMAL PROMOTION PATH FROM THIS CLASS
