The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region Design & Engineering Services, is looking for an Engineering Assistant 3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!What you will be doing:
In this position, you will work under the direction of a registered professional engineer performing a variety of engineering duties, such as applying accepted and standard engineering practices associated with the location, design and construction of highway, traffic and other civil engineering projects. You will be a member of a team tasked with developing designs and bid-ready documents for highway-related transportation projects ranging in complexity. You will have the opportunity to travel to projects within southcentral Alaska and may be required to occasionally travel to remote communities in small aircraft. You will collaborate with multiple functional groups within the department, coordinate with staff from multiple areas of expertise, and assist with public and agency meetings to successfully construct capital improvement projects in Central Region, thereby delivering the department's mission. A valid Driver's License is preferred but not essential. Engineer-in-training certification is preferred but not essential. AND
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.Or:
A bachelor's degree with a major in a branch of engineering from an institution not accredited byABET. AND
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. AND Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level. The specific experience includes such work as an Engineering Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.Substitutions:
Four years of any combination of ABET accredited postsecondary education in engineering, architecture, or land surveying (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) and/or engineering, architectural or land surveying experience may substitute for the required degree. Graduate study in engineering or architecture may be substituted for the required experience (2 semester/3 quarter hours equal one month).
