The Houston District Hydraulics Section is seeking a highly motivated team member to join our team to help tackle challenging projects and contribute to shaping the future of transportation needs. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work with industry leaders and experts in the field of hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) to review and assist with the development of schematic design, PS&E, and supporting documentation such as drainage reports. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment reviewing permits for private development projects including master planned communities adjacent to TxDOT facilities. The position includes coordination and collaboration with local governments and agencies to address complex drainage issues. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties:

Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans. Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support. Makes presentations and represents TxDOT. Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements. Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions. Performs planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies. Provides design engineering support for districts in project development. Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters. Represents the district/division at various meetings. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer II Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

The essential duties for this job include those listed above and the following: Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts. Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies. Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets. Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Transportation Engineer I Education :

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience :

4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for

Minimum Qualifications Transportation Engineer II Education :

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience :

5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Transportation Engineer I and II Licenses and Certification s: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Prof Engineer

• Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Transportation Engineer I and II Knowledge in hydrologic and hydraulic programs such as: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, OpenRoads Designer Drainage and Utilities, EPA SWMM, or XP SWMM.

Competencies:
