The Planner/Engineer role will learn to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria, using educated judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. This position receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions. All work is directed and reviewed by a Project Manager.
Job Responsibilities:
Contribute to traffic impact analysis, transportation plans, transit plans, prepare documents to support P&E work and other transportation planning and engineering work Visualize and illustrate a multi-dimensional problem (concept or design) Research, analyze and interpret technical data to identify scope of problems and options for potential solutions Identify specific information from a substantial amount of related data or written information in such sources as legal property descriptions, technical reports, field work, manuals and standard specifications, and technical expertise in a broad range of planning and engineering services Working knowledge of national standards (MUTCD, AASHTO) and WSDOT and other local agency standards Read and understand the terminology and symbols used in topographic survey maps, GIS, field notes, plans, and aerial photographs to interpret the information for use in planning and designing transportation engineering solutions Develop technical skill set focusing on increasing both breadth and depth Be curious about what we do and why we do it, ask questions, and view every interaction as a learning opportunity Develop an understanding of the "big picture" and how the tasks that are performed on a daily basis contribute to project success, business goals and how it fits into engineering/planning in general Provide quality control on own work and at peer level Demonstrate the company values in your work and interactions with others Transpo Group is an award-winning planning and design firm specializing in multimodal transportation planning, traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems. Qualifications:
0-3 years of experience Minimum BS/BA transportation related fields Preferred knowledge of industry software pertaining to transportation planning and engineering Entry level into the profession. Learning to independently evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria, using educated judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Receives instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features and possible solutions. Preferred basic knowledge of industry software pertaining to engineering and/or planning. All work is directed and reviewed by a Project Manager. The responsibilities of this role may or may not be limited to this list below as the needs of the business, as well as the employee's strengths, development areas and interests, are also taken into consideration. The expectation is for employees to provide cross-functional responsibilities (i.e. engineering and planning) and become more "focused" in one or the other as their career progresses. Professional Contribute to the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) across a range of transportation engineering disciplines, including roadways, transit facilities, parking lots, traffic signals, roundabouts, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), roadway lighting, maintenance of traffic (MOT), geometric design, and signage. Develop proficiency in design software tools such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D; MicroStation and OpenRoads experience is also beneficial. Support the visualization and communication of multi-dimensional design concepts and engineering solutions. Research, analyze, and interpret technical data to define project scopes, identify issues, and evaluate potential solutions. Review and extract relevant information from a variety of sources, including legal property descriptions, technical reports, field data, manuals, and standard specifications. Develop a working knowledge of applicable standards and guidelines, including MUTCD, AASHTO, WSDOT, and other local agency requirements. Interpret topographic surveys, GIS data, field notes, engineering plans, and aerial imagery to support planning and design efforts.
