Spokane Valley is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic employee to serve our City as regular, full-time Engineer for the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) in our Engineering Division. The ideal candidate will have exceptional technical skills and a strong desire to provide superior service to both internal and external customers.SELECTED EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Design small to moderate scale capital construction, transportation, and stormwater projects; prepare and/or review plans, specifications, cost estimates, and final construction contract bid documents. Provide support to acquire required city, state, and federal project permits, including state and federal environmental documentation and approvals. Prepare, compile, and analyze calculations and/or statistical and technical information involving assigned engineering specialty including utilities, construction, transportation, and others; review calculations, analyses, and designs of others to ensure conformance with City engineering standards and/or to inform decision making. Provide technical engineering support to project construction team; facilitate communications with the city project manager, and adjacent property and business owners. Participate in public outreach and community involvement efforts. Compile, review, and/or present information and other materials to City Council and the public.DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field and minimum of three (3) years previous related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices and methods as applicable to a municipal setting with relevant technical experience in public works; thorough knowledge of applicable City policies, laws, and regulations affecting Division activities. Experience drafting using AutoCAD and designing municipal roadway and stormwater projects. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other governmental agency representatives, City officials, and the public.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Washington or reciprocal certification. Must possess a valid State driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Successful completion of a background check is a requirement of employment at Spokane Valley.SALARY:
Salary range is $7,067.52 - $10,699.44 per month (Grade 16) DOQ plus excellent benefit package. This is a represented, FLSA exempt position in the Public Works Department.BENEFITS
Health benefits are provided through the Association of Washington Cities Employee Benefit Trust. The City currently provides medical, dental, life, long term disability, vision, health reimbursement account contributions and Employee Assistance benefits. Holiday, vacation, and other paid leave are provided. The required retirement system of the City is Washington Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS) which requires an employee contribution.
