Job Description

  • Disclaimer-this position will be considered classified-exempt and "at will.
" The Transportation Engineering Technologist will operate within the Survey and Mapping Unit of the Right of Way Division, covering District 3 (Jackson, Roane, Calhoun, Ritchie, Pleasants, Wood), District 4 (Doddridge, Harrison, Taylor, Preston, Monongalia, Marion), and District 6 (Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, Ohio, Tyler, and Wetzel counties), with a primary focus on District 6. As a Survey Party Chief, the successful candidate will lead all aspects of surveying and mapping, delivering expert-level data tailored to West Virginia Division of Highways (DOH) project requirements. Reporting to the Regional Manager, the incumbent will provide managerial oversight to subordinates, manage assigned projects, and ensure the accurate delivery of complex survey data. Performs related work as required.

  • TRAINING/EDUCATION
  • Certification as an Engineering Technologist by the West Virginia Transportation Engineering Technician Certification Board.
EXPERIENCE
  • No prior experience required Substitution (New Hires Only)
  • Associate of Applied Science in Highway Engineering Technology degree from a regionally accredited college or university, plus twelve (12) years of paid experience in a technical capacity in a Civil Engineering environment may be substituted for the required training/education. OR
  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or similar technical degree from an accredited college or university, plus ten (10) years of paid experience in a technical capacity in a Civil Engineering environment may be substituted for the required training/education. OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or similar technical degree from an accredited college or university, plus seven (7) years of paid experience in a technical capacity in a Civil Engineering environment OR be licensed as a Professional Surveyor OR be licensed as a Professional Engineer may be substituted for the required training/education.
Special:
Employees functioning as a licensed land surveyor must have a current state license from the State Board of Examiners for Land.
