Job Description

QUALITY ENGINEER
The Quality Engineer position requires split time between offices and production floor, typically 60/40, respectively. This can vary in either direction based on general operations and priorities. Roles/ responsibilities include Tucson, AZ and Chandler, AZ locations. Travel to Chandler location is typically 1 day per month.
Summary :
The Quality Engineer works with the Quality Manager to ensure continued conformance to the requirements of ISO9001:2015/AS9100D, Nadcap Chemical Processing Certifications and numerous customer requirements. The Quality Engineer and Quality Manager serve as subject matter experts in specification review, testing and processing across all departments (painting, powder coating, chemical processing, abrasive blasting). They work cross-functionally with Estimating/ Contract Review, Planning and production to ensure customer requirements can be met. Specific roles and responsibilities include :
  • Ensuring correct and complete recordkeeping of test results, processing records, and material traceability documents.
  • Conducting some process control and lot tests
  • Coordinating the performance of other testing by PIF employees and outside service providers
  • Work closely with Solution Analysis Technician on maintenance of processing solutions & process control
  • Training production team members on changes to processes, introduction to new processes, and for reinforcement of existing processes.
  • Manage Training Matrix, ensuring process operators and inspectors are trained and evaluated
  • Internal auditing (quality systems and production)
  • Act as quality representative for 3rd party and customer audits
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to benefit product/ process
  • Gather KPI's, including product acceptance rate, first pass yield, and on-time delivery
  • Tabulate data related to process control and product defects/ causes
  • Prepare data/ reports as requested by Top Management
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries
  • Partner with customers and PIF internal teams to resolve product-related issues
  • Occasionally visit customer sites for quality performance discussions
  • Make process and product-related decisions on shop floor and offer technical expertise
  • Maintain calibration schedule, ensuring continuous availability of calibrated equipment
  • Manage Document Control System, ensuring adherence to change process Skills/ experience relating directly to role : Root cause / corrective action:
  • Ability to lead RCCA efforts & provide prompt responses to customer complaints
  • Containment/ impact evaluation
  • 5-Why analysis
  • 8D / problem solving Process control:
  • Familiarity with operating procedures/ process instructions
  • Testing in support of production processes (sampling, periodic, lot testing) o PIF has numerous production processes requiring ongoing testing to verify their effectiveness, along with lot testing for verification of production orders.
  • Control limits/ operating limits
  • Data analysis and reporting through charts/ pivot tables (entry-intermediate Microsoft Excel ability)
  • Ability to schedule and manage a variety of process control tests (internal and outsourced)
  • Basic chemical laboratory skills
  • Interest in expanding working-level knowledge of chemistry
Test/Inspection Equipment and Measurement:
  • Experience with, or ability to become proficient with basic measurement tools such as: o Digital calipers o Scales/ balances o Pipettes, graduated cylinders, common lab glassware o Rulers, machinist scales o Eddy current coating thickness meters o Gloss meters
  • Familiarity with measurement units/systems, including precision scale (Microns, "mils", Thousandths)
Technical Specifications & Manufacturing Drawings:
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, manuals, specifications
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow cross-references between multiple specifications
  • Ability to gather applicable requirements from specifications, and translate them into process control documents/ work instructions
  • Basic GD&T knowledge, and ability to read manufacturing drawings as they pertain to finishing
