Position Summary As the Quality Engineer at Southern Gear and Machine, you will get to learn and experience the very niche market of gear manufacturing and inspection. You will work side by side with team members that excel in a high mix environment and strive for only the highest quality.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Review purchase orders for quality clauses and ensure compliance with contractual requirements
  • Evaluate inspection plans for accuracy and verify appropriate inspection methods.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality communications and inquiries
  • Collaborate with the Quality Director and production team to troubleshoot and resolve quality issues
  • Conduct structured root cause analysis for nonconformances and quality issues
  • Generate quality reports, including metrics, trend analysis, and nonconformance summaries
  • Complete and submit shipping release documentation and certificates of conformance
  • Process and submit Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) to customers
  • Maintain accurate quality records and documentation within company systems
  • Lead and support AS9100 internal and external audits
  • Develop, review, and revise procedures, work instructions, and quality forms
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive action activities and nonconformance documentation
  • Support supplier quality documentation and approval processes
  • Work with the procurement department to maintain the list of approved suppliers.
  • Complete REACH/RoHS compliance customer surveys.
  • Support Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) activities.
  • Submit deviation requests to customers
Job Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 quality management systems
  • Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation requirements
  • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone
  • Understanding of configuration control and traceability requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and quality standards, including GD&T
  • Experience with document control, revision tracking, and quality records management
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and electronic document management systems
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with customers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard computer applications
  • Previous experience in aerospace, precision machining, or manufacturing environments preferred
  • Gear manufacturing experience is a plus
Schedule:
Full time,Monday to Friday 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM Reports to:
Engineering Manager Pay and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience. This position includes a fully company paid medical, vision, and life insurance plan, a 401(k) plan with Company match, paid vacation, holidays and sick days.
