Job Description

Job Summary An industrial automation organization is hiring an entry-level Reliability Engineer on a long-term contract to support high-throughput production operations. This hands-on role focuses on servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex automated systems while supporting preventive maintenance and reliability improvement initiatives. The position is well suited for early-career technicians or engineers seeking sustained exposure to automation, controls, and reliability practices in a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform routine and reactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automated production equipment including PLCs, HMIs, industrial robots, conveyors, VFDs, sensors, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems. Execute, follow, and help refine preventive and predictive maintenance tasks and procedures. Diagnose equipment breakdowns, implement corrective actions, and document failures to prevent recurrence. Assist with commissioning, calibration, and testing of new or upgraded automation systems under supervision. Read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and control drawings. Safely use hand tools and electrical test equipment such as multimeters, clamp meters, and insulation testers. Maintain accurate equipment history, work orders, and spare parts data within the CMMS. Collect and document failure data to support reliability analyses and improvement projects. Adhere to site safety procedures including lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, and electrical safety practices. Coordinate with production, engineering, and vendor technicians and escalate issues as needed. Qualifications Relevant hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, automation, or controls; a degree is not required (technical diploma, equivalent experience, or military training acceptable). 0-3 years of experience, including internships or co-op assignments. Basic familiarity with PLC platforms, HMIs, and ladder logic concepts. Experience or coursework involving electrical components, motors, sensors, pneumatics, and mechanical systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for documentation and reporting. Ability to use diagnostic and test equipment and follow electrical and mechanical schematics. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to work shifts, overtime, and participate in an on-call rotation as required. Preferred Qualifications Basic PLC programming or logic debugging experience. Familiarity with CAD software for reading or preparing simple assembly or installation drawings. Exposure to industrial networks, VFD setup, and industrial robotics. Experience with CMMS platforms and condition monitoring tools. Safety training or awareness certifications related to industrial or electrical environments. Physical Requirements Ability to climb ladders and work in and around operating machinery. Capability to perform elevated work and access confined spaces with appropriate PPE and training. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 60 pounds. Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and climb for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
