POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Engineer, Metrology is responsible for ensuring that products, manufacturing processes, measurement systems, and inspection methods meet Enstrom Helicopter Corporation's quality standards, applicable specifications, regulatory requirements, and production needs. This role supports manufacturing quality performance through metrology, gauge design, inspection planning, audits, nonconformance review, corrective action, root cause analysis, statistical process control, and continuous improvement. Working closely with Quality, Engineering, Procurement, Production, the Quality Engineer, Metrology develops and evaluates measurement and inspection solutions, reviews product and process performance, and helps resolve quality concerns affecting manufacturing operations. The role applies knowledge of quality systems, manufacturing processes, GD&T, engineering drawings, metrology, and gauge design to support compliant operations, reliable production performance, accurate quality documentation, and effective resolution of quality issues.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

Evaluate and approve manufacturing processes and products. Conduct audits and assessments to ensure compliance with applicable specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements. Review nonconformances and work with Production and Engineering to implement appropriate corrective actions. Monitor production performance and support improvements related to product quality and manufacturing reliability. Ensure quality activities align with Enstrom's quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements. Lead or support audits, assessments, and follow-up activities. Use root cause analysis and structured problem-solving techniques to address quality issues. Partner with Manufacturing to identify corrective actions and verify effective resolution of quality concerns. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing performance, product quality, inspection methods, and quality management processes. Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement, Production, and Quality teams to resolve quality issues. Communicate quality concerns clearly and professionally with internal teams and external suppliers. Support production needs by helping ensure products and services meet required specifications. Provide quality and metrology input to support business, production, and continuous improvement goals. Design, develop, evaluate, and improve gauges, fixtures, and other measurement and inspection tooling used to verify product conformity. Develop gauge concepts and requirements based on engineering drawings, GD&T, manufacturing processes, inspection needs, and measurement capability. Support the validation, qualification, calibration, and ongoing effectiveness of gauges and measurement systems used in manufacturing and inspection activities. Develop and maintain manufacturing and quality documentation, inspection records, and related reporting. Track and support manufacturing quality and metrology metrics to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities. Maintain organized and accurate records related to audits, corrective actions, nonconformances, measurement systems, and supplier performance. Develop, optimize, and maintain CMM inspection programs as required. Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gauge R&R studies to evaluate measurement repeatability, reproducibility, and accuracy. Observe all company safety regulations and procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment when working in production areas or supplier facilities. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related field required. Minimum of three years of experience in quality engineering, metrology, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical role required. Experience working in a manufacturing environment required. Experience with audits, corrective actions, and quality management systems required. Experience developing, designing, or supporting manufacturing gauges, inspection fixtures, and measurement systems required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, inspection methods, quality practices, and production environments. Demonstrated knowledge of gauge design principles, including the ability to develop or evaluate gauges and inspection fixtures based on engineering drawings, GD&T, manufacturing requirements, and inspection needs. Knowledge of metrology principles, dimensional inspection methods, measurement systems, calibration practices, and measurement equipment. Ability to determine appropriate measurement methods and equipment based on tolerances, product characteristics, and manufacturing requirements. Strong understanding of quality systems, standards, and regulatory requirements, including

ISO 9001

; knowledge of AS9100 preferred. Proficiency in auditing, root cause analysis, corrective action, and problem-solving techniques. Knowledge and application of Statistical Process Control (SPC). Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and drawings, including GD&T. Experience with PC-DMIS with the ability to develop, optimize, and maintain CMM inspection programs. Knowledge and practical application of Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gauge R&R studies to evaluate measurement repeatability, reproducibility, and accuracy. Strong communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional internal teams. Ability to manage documentation, metrics, inspection data, and quality records accurately. Knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements and processes preferred. Aerospace or aviation manufacturing experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to frequently bend, reach, and use manual dexterity for inspection activities, equipment operation, and document handling. Adequate vision for reviewing engineering drawings, inspection results, measurement data, and quality documentation. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment when working in production areas or supplier facilities.
