Quality Engineer - Automotive Manufacturing Job Description The Quality Engineer will play a critical, high-impact role in an automotive manufacturing environment, supporting production, meeting customer requirements, and driving ongoing quality initiatives. This position leads root cause investigations, implements corrective and preventive actions, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to resolve non-conformances and enhance overall product quality. The role requires strong ownership of core quality processes such as PPAP, APQP, control plans, and continuous improvement, along with direct interaction with automotive customers and internal stakeholders. The successful candidate confidently makes quality decisions in a fast-paced, shop-floor-driven setting while supporting audit activities and balancing competing priorities. Responsibilities Support day-to-day production activities by monitoring product quality and addressing quality concerns on the shop floor. Lead root cause analysis for quality issues and non-conformances, using structured problem-solving methods to identify and eliminate underlying causes. Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) from initiation through verification of effectiveness, ensuring timely closure and robust long-term solutions. Own and manage core automotive quality processes, including PPAP and APQP, to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements. Develop, maintain, and improve control plans and related quality documentation to support consistent and repeatable manufacturing processes. Partner cross-functionally with production, engineering, and other internal teams to resolve quality issues and implement process improvements. Interact directly with automotive customers to address quality concerns, provide updates, and support customer-specific requirements and expectations. Prepare for and support quality and system audits, including IATF-related activities, by providing documentation, data, and on-the-floor support as needed. Use customer portals and internal systems to manage quality documentation, submissions, and communication related to customer requirements. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, improving process capability, and enhancing overall product quality. Balance and prioritize multiple quality tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely and effective responses to production and customer needs. Support quality-related documentation activities, including reports, records, and submissions associated with PPAP, APQP, and CAPA. Essential Skills Proven experience in automotive quality engineering or a closely related quality role within the automotive industry. Strong background in customer interaction with automotive customers, including handling quality concerns and requirements. Hands-on experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), including preparation and submission of documentation. Working knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and its application in an automotive manufacturing environment. Demonstrated experience leading and managing Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) from issue identification through closure. Expertise in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methods to address quality issues and non-conformances. Solid understanding of automotive quality standards, expectations, and best practices. Ability to make confident, data-driven quality decisions in a fast-paced, shop-floor-driven environment. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and interacting with customers and internal stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in plastics manufacturing, particularly in an automotive context. Knowledge of IATF-related requirements and audit support in an automotive manufacturing environment. Familiarity with injection molding processes and their impact on product quality. Experience using customer portals to manage quality documentation, submissions, and communication. background in continuous improvement initiatives focused on process capability and defect reduction. Comfort working in both hands-on production areas and office settings for documentation and analysis. Work Environment This role operates primarily on the manufacturing floor in a hands-on capacity, closely supporting active production and addressing quality issues at the source. The Quality Engineer regularly moves between the shop floor and an office or desk environment to complete documentation, analyze data, and manage PPAP, APQP, and CAPA records. The work setting is fast-paced and production-driven, with frequent interaction with cross-functional teams and direct engagement with automotive manufacturers and suppliers. The position involves supporting audit activities, including IATF-related audits, and working with customer portals and internal systems to maintain and share quality documentation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Belmont, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $45.00/hr.
