Konik is partnering with a well-established compliance, safety, and engineering services firm, seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join its growing Engineering Division. This role is ideal for someone with HVAC, mechanical systems, building automation, or commissioning experience who enjoys a mix of field work, technical problem-solving, and project coordination.
The Commissioning Engineer will support mostly new construction projects, along with some retrofit and recommissioning work. This person will work closely with Professional Engineers and the Director of Engineering to inspect mechanical systems, coordinate testing, review HVAC and BAS designs, write reports, and help solve building performance issues related to temperature control, ventilation, and indoor air quality.
Commissioning Engineer Responsibilities
Perform site inspections of building and mechanical systems on active construction projects
Attend construction meetings to coordinate testing, inspection, and commissioning activities
Understanding of Mechanical Building Codes and Construction Standards
Prepare commissioning reports, progress updates, and project documentation
Develop test procedures to verify proper operation of HVAC and mechanical systems
Conduct detailed HVAC system testing using building automation systems
Troubleshoot temperature control, ventilation, and indoor air quality issues
Assist with design review of HVAC systems and building automation/control systems
Support commissioning, recommissioning, and retro-commissioning projects as needed
Commissioning Engineer Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent HVAC/building commissioning experience
4+ years of experience in commissioning, HVAC systems, mechanical design review, BAS/controls, or related building systems work
Working knowledge of building automation systems and HVAC control strategies
Ability to confidently read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, especially ASHRAE 62.1, preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced project environment
Ability to travel 20-25% of the work week, primarily for project site visits
