Quality Engineer Job Description This role provides manufacturing and quality engineering leadership within a production environment, ensuring that products and processes consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements. The Quality Engineer develops and maintains quality plans, operational procedures, and detection systems, and implements effective control points, quality measures, and process qualifications in support of a robust quality management system. Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and implement effective quality plans, procedures, standards, and measures that support the quality management system. Collaborate closely with engineers, manufacturing teams, and customers to ensure customer requirements are clearly understood and consistently satisfied. Support and coordinate project management activities related to quality, including planning, tracking, and reporting. Review and analyze quality system results, including customer complaints, warranty returns, scrap, rework, and nonconformance data, and prepare reports with appropriate corrective and preventive actions. Plan, conduct, and lead audits of products, manufacturing processes, and the quality management system to verify compliance and drive improvement. Apply process controls at appropriate control points, including the use of statistical methods to monitor and improve process capability and performance. Develop and maintain effective material traceability systems for incoming, in-process, and completed products and materials. Support and maintain an effective welding quality program consistent with applicable AWS and related requirements. Lead and guide the efforts of quality coordinators as assigned, providing direction, coaching, and support. Assist the team with in-process and final inspections to ensure products meet specifications and quality standards. Prepare and maintain documentation in accordance with the Quality System Manual, operating procedures, technical procedures, and work instructions relevant to the position. Ensure compliance with the organization's Quality Policy and all applicable quality system requirements. Conduct certified audits of internal processes and supplier processes, and follow up on findings to ensure timely closure. Use statistical and analytical tools to identify root causes of quality issues and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Collaborate with suppliers and customers to resolve quality concerns and improve overall supply chain quality performance. Perform various other duties as assigned by leadership to support overall manufacturing and quality objectives. Travel as needed to global manufacturing, supplier, and customer facilities to support audits, investigations, and quality improvement activities. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably with a focus on Welding. Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or a closely related discipline. Hands-on experience with core quality engineering tools and practices, including PPAP, root cause analysis, and supplier quality management. Certified auditing experience for internal processes and supplier processes. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical publications and apply findings to practical engineering and quality challenges. Strong knowledge of quality processes, procedures, and measures used in manufacturing environments. Solid understanding of statistical methods and quality improvement techniques, including their application to process control and capability improvement. Ability to support and maintain an effective Quality Management System consistent with international quality standards such as ISO 9001 and NSF 61. Solid knowledge of engineering documents, processes, and procedures, including specifications, drawings, and work instructions. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for data analysis, reporting, and documentation. Experience using SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for quality-related activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Professional standing or membership in relevant professional societies such as AWS, ASQ, or similar organizations is highly desirable. Knowledge of AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) requirements and familiarity with NDT inspection certifications to support welding quality programs. Experience working in a manufacturing welding environment is highly desirable. Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, including the use of structured problem-solving and lean or similar methodologies. Ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams focused on quality improvement and defect reduction. Comfort working with global suppliers and customers, including participation in audits, reviews, and joint improvement activities. Work Environment This position operates primarily within a manufacturing environment that includes welding operations, material handling, and production processes governed by a formal Quality Management System. The role requires regular interaction with production floors, engineering offices, and quality laboratories, as well as collaboration with global manufacturing sites, suppliers, and customers. Work is performed using standard office productivity tools such as Microsoft Office and enterprise systems such as SAP, alongside quality and statistical analysis tools to support data-driven decision-making. The position may involve periodic travel to domestic and international manufacturing, supplier, and customer facilities to conduct audits, support investigations, and drive quality improvements.
