Job Description

Job Title:
Quality Engineer Job Description This Quality Engineer role supports a critical, rapidly growing product line and plays a highly visible part in ensuring exceptional product quality across both manufacturing and field installations. You will lead structured problem-solving efforts, drive cross-functional collaboration, and ensure rapid resolution of quality issues in fast-paced factory and field environments. This position offers significant ownership, end-to-end exposure from manufacturing defects to field performance, and the opportunity to directly influence a major product ramp. Responsibilities Review and triage daily quality issues originating from manufacturing operations and field installations, ensuring timely prioritization and follow-up. Lead daily cross-functional "war room" meetings to prioritize critical issues, align stakeholders, and drive accountability for resolution. Drive root cause investigations and corrective actions using structured methodologies such as RCCA and 8D, ensuring issues are fully contained and prevented from recurring. Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, and field service teams to resolve defects and systemic issues across the entire product lifecycle. Lead and support the development, maintenance, and execution of Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEA) to proactively identify and mitigate risks. Represent the Quality function in engineering changes, product development activities, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring quality requirements are clearly defined and met. Ensure quality standards and best practices are integrated into design decisions, process changes, and new product introduction activities. Coordinate cross-functional teams by facilitating meetings, tracking actions and owners, and escalating issues appropriately to maintain momentum and resolve blockers. Use data and analytical tools to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement, and translate insights into clear, actionable plans. Support a fast-paced, high-volume production and installation environment by managing multiple issues simultaneously and maintaining focus on 24-48 hour issue resolution targets. Demonstrate strong ownership by driving teams toward solutions, rather than executing tasks in a purely supportive capacity, and by ensuring closure on all assigned issues. Communicate in a structured, direct, and clear manner with stakeholders at all levels, providing concise status updates, risk assessments, and recommendations. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline. 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience, or at least 3+ years with a Master's degree. Proven experience leading, not just supporting, RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) investigations and 8D problem-solving efforts. Demonstrated ability to run daily cross-functional "war room" meetings and drive teams toward timely resolution of critical issues. Hands-on ownership of PFMEA, including developing, updating, and executing PFMEA for complex manufacturing processes. Experience working in manufacturing environments with an emphasis on quality, reliability, and process control. Experience working in engineering-driven organizations where collaboration with design, process, and field engineering teams is essential. Strong ability to drive execution, including setting priorities, following through on action items, and ensuring closure on multiple concurrent issues. Proven capability to manage multiple issues simultaneously in a fast-paced setting while maintaining high standards of quality and thoroughness. Ability to work effectively under tight timelines, including achieving 24-48 hour issue resolution targets when required. Strong communication skills that are structured, direct, and clear, enabling effective coordination across functions and levels. Experience in field and manufacturing problem-issue environments, handling both on-site production issues and customer or field performance concerns. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience applying structured problem-solving tools such as 8D, fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams, and other root cause analysis techniques. Familiarity with FMEA and PFMEA methodologies, including risk assessment and mitigation planning. Project management experience, including coordinating cross-functional teams and managing complex issue resolution efforts. Background in industries such as semiconductor, automotive, or aerospace and defense, where rigorous quality standards and structured problem-solving are critical. Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems in a manufacturing or quality context. Six Sigma Green Belt or Six Sigma Black Belt certification, or equivalent practical experience with Six Sigma tools and methodologies. Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar professional quality certification. Experience with new product introduction (NPI), including integrating quality requirements into early design and process development stages. Exposure to agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban for managing work, issues, and continuous improvement initiatives. Demonstrated ownership mindset, taking full responsibility for issues from identification through resolution rather than focusing solely on task execution. Willingness to travel approximately 5% of the time, including monthly travel to a manufacturing site in Beverly, MA and occasional customer visits approximately twice per year. Work Environment The role operates in a fast-paced, high-volume production and field installation environment, providing direct exposure to both factory operations and real-world product performance. You will collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, field service, and leadership teams in an engineering-driven organization that values structured problem-solving and data-based decision-making. Daily work includes leading cross-functional "war room" meetings, coordinating actions across multiple disciplines, and using tools such as RCCA, 8D, PFMEA, and fishbone diagrams, as well as enterprise systems like SAP. The environment offers high visibility and impact, as you will directly own quality for a major product ramp and engage in end-to-end activities from manufacturing defects through field performance. Travel requirements are modest, at approximately 5% or less, including monthly visits to a manufacturing facility in Beverly, MA and occasional customer site visits around twice per year. The culture rewards hands-on leadership, clear communication, and an ownership mindset, providing growth flexibility and the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as you demonstrate capability.
