Position Summary We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Quality Manager to oversee our quality systems in a precision machining environment specializing in multi-spindle screw machine manufacturing. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that products meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, and applicable quality standards. The Quality Manager will work closely with inspectors, production, engineering, sales, and management to prevent defects, resolve quality issues, improve manufacturing processes, and maintain strong customer relationships. The ideal candidate understands the challenges of high-volume precision machining and can work directly with machinists and production personnel to identify problems and implement effective corrective actions. Key Responsibilities Quality Management and Systems Manage and maintain the company's quality management system, procedures, work instructions, and inspection documentation. Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements and applicable industry standards. Coordinate internal audits, customer audits, and third-party certification audits as applicable. Maintain quality records, inspection reports, control plans, and other required documentation. Monitor quality performance metrics and report trends and improvement opportunities to management. Manufacturing and Process Quality Oversee first-piece, in-process, and final inspection activities. Establish and maintain inspection methods, sampling plans, and acceptance criteria. Work directly with multi-spindle screw machine operators and production personnel to address dimensional issues and process variation. Support process setup, tooling changes, and production launches to ensure parts meet print specifications. Review engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, tolerances, and customer specifications. Ensure proper use, calibration, and maintenance of measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, optical comparators, and other precision inspection instruments. Identify opportunities to improve process capability, reduce variation, and prevent recurring defects. Customer and Supplier Quality Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality concerns and technical quality inquiries. Investigate customer complaints, nonconforming product, returns, and rejected material. Lead root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive action activities. Prepare and submit customer corrective action reports, including 8D reports and other required formats. Work with suppliers to resolve incoming material and component quality issues. Coordinate containment, sorting, rework, and corrective actions when quality problems arise. Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction Track scrap, rework, customer complaints, and other quality performance indicators. Lead initiatives to reduce scrap, improve productivity, and lower the cost of poor quality. Implement problem-solving methods such as 5 Why, fishbone analysis, and statistical process control (SPC). Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to identify the root causes of machine-related quality issues. Promote preventive quality practices rather than relying solely on final inspection. Leadership and Training Supervise and develop quality personnel, including inspectors and technicians, as applicable. Train production employees on inspection requirements, quality procedures, and defect prevention. Establish clear expectations for quality accountability throughout the organization. Work with production leadership to resolve quality issues without unnecessarily disrupting manufacturing schedules. Foster a culture in which quality is everyone's responsibility. Strong understanding of precision measurement, dimensional inspection, and engineering drawings. Experience with tight-tolerance, high-volume manufacturing. Knowledge of root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and nonconformance management. Ability to communicate effectively with machinists, production supervisors, customers, suppliers, and management. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems. Preferred Experience with multi-spindle screw machines, including Acme, Davenport, Brown and Sharpe, Hydromat, or similar equipment. Experience with CNC or other high-volume machining operations.
