Job Title:
Quality Engineer Job Description The Quality Engineer establishes, owns, and continuously improves robust quality control systems that ensure manufacturing processes and products consistently meet stringent quality standards. This role leads root-cause investigations, drives corrective and preventive actions, and champions continuous improvement initiatives across the plant. The position requires strong problem-solving capability, deep understanding of quality engineering and manufacturing processes, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance product performance, process capability, and production efficiency while supporting environmentally responsible, long-lasting roofing solutions. Responsibilities Adhere to all company policies and safety requirements, including the proper use of personal protective equipment. Develop, implement, and maintain quality control processes in manufacturing using PFMEA, process control plans (PCPs), quality management systems (QMS), and Lean principles. Monitor and analyze production process capability to ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO and Six Sigma. Conduct thorough root cause analyses and lead corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence. Perform internal and supplier audits to verify adherence to quality requirements and standards. Collaborate closely with design, production, supply chain, and other functional teams to improve product and process performance. Create, maintain, and improve documentation for quality standards, procedures, and inspection processes in alignment with
ISO 9001
requirements. Utilize statistical process control (SPC) and Six Sigma tools to identify trends, measure and improve capability, and enhance manufacturing efficiency. Support new product development activities, including process validation and qualification of new or modified processes. Train teams and departments on quality standards, best practices, data utilization, and problem-solving methodologies. Work closely with suppliers to improve incoming material quality, reduce defects, and strengthen supplier quality performance. Collaborate with Marketing, Procurement, R D, Sales, Process Engineering, Operations, suppliers, and customers to address quality issues and drive improvements. Develop and standardize trial procedures that reduce risk and ensure products conform to internal specifications and performance expectations. Apply problem-solving techniques, process mapping, PFMEA, control plans, measurement system analysis, and SPC in daily work. Create, analyze, and interpret design of experiments (DOE) data to optimize processes and improve product quality. Conduct and participate in annual quality audits, interpret audit results, and implement adjustments and improvements based on findings. Lead or support continuous improvement projects focused on cost reduction, defect reduction, and process optimization. Use advanced problem-solving and data analysis tools to identify improvement opportunities and verify the effectiveness of implemented solutions. Manage changing priorities and multiple assignments while ensuring projects and initiatives are completed on time and within budget. Communicate clearly with all levels of the organization to report quality performance, escalate issues, and align on corrective actions. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in engineering, statistics, or an equivalent technical field. At least 7-10 years of related experience in plant quality and/or continuous improvement roles. Demonstrated experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment. Proven expertise in continuous improvement and Lean manufacturing methodologies. Hands-on experience with PFMEA, process control plans (PCPs), and quality management systems (QMS). Strong background in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Experience with ISO-9000 and
ISO 9001
standards, including auditing and quality testing. Practical experience with Six Sigma tools and methods; familiarity with green or black belt-level concepts. Proficiency in quality tools such as statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE). Ability to use statistical analysis software and data analysis tools to interpret and act on quality data. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to view issues from technical, engineering, and quality perspectives. Experience conducting internal and supplier audits and following manufacturing quality standards. Ability to work effectively with vendors, contractors, plant staff, and engineering teams to complete projects on time and within budget. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products for reporting, analysis, and documentation. Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities while maintaining high quality standards. Proven capability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. Knowledge of quality management systems and their practical application in manufacturing environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications ASQ certification is preferred and demonstrates a strong commitment to the quality profession. Experience with problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, FMEA, and other structured approaches. Exposure to Wonderware or similar systems for data collection and process monitoring is strongly preferred. Advanced problem-solving and data analysis experience beyond basic quality tools. Experience working with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Procurement, R D, Sales, Process Engineering, Operations, suppliers, and customers. Demonstrated strong teamwork skills and a solid work ethic. Ability to lead and facilitate training on quality standards, tools, and best practices. Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment with continuous improvement expectations. Experience in cost estimation and understanding the impact of quality initiatives on overall costs is beneficial. Familiarity with electrical maintenance concepts as they relate to manufacturing equipment and process reliability is a plus. Work Environment This role operates in a manufacturing environment that emphasizes rigorous quality standards, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making. You will work extensively with tools such as root cause analysis, PFMEA, PCPs, QMS, SPC, DOE, and Six Sigma methodologies to monitor and improve process capability and product performance. The position involves frequent participation in internal and supplier quality audits, annual quality reviews, and ongoing continuous improvement initiatives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and interact regularly with suppliers and customers, requiring strong communication and coordination skills. The environment values proactive troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and a hands-on approach to resolving issues on the production floor. Safety and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment are integral to daily operations. Work may involve balancing multiple projects and priorities, with an expectation to adjust processes and systems based on audit results, performance data, and evolving business needs.
