Full Time Salary:
$135,000 to $150,500 Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Staff Operations Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across startup, commissioning, performance validation, troubleshooting, and early operations of complex industrial power generation systems. This is an individual contributor role with significant technical ownership and cross functional influence. The ideal candidate brings broad industrial engineering experience and understands how mechanical, process, structural, electrical, controls, and operational systems work together. Direct fuel cell experience is not required. Practical plant, field, startup, or commissioning experience is much more important than a narrowly specialized background. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead commissioning strategy, planning, readiness, startup, validation, and project turnover activities
  • Support mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, piping, and integrated plant systems
  • Troubleshoot complex multidisciplinary equipment and operational issues
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective action efforts
  • Support performance testing, acceptance testing, and commercial project closeout
  • Review engineering packages, field changes, technical risks, and commissioning readiness
  • Partner across Engineering, Field Service, Operations, Project Management, Procurement, Quality, contractors, and customers
  • Provide technical leadership during customer meetings and field activities
  • Support first article technologies where established commissioning procedures may not yet exist
  • Identify recurring fleet issues and recommend design or operational improvements Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Engineering, or related discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Master's degree or PhD with 6+ years of relevant experience may also qualify
  • Significant experience in commissioning, plant operations, field engineering, or complex industrial project execution
  • Strong multidisciplinary troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability
  • Practical understanding of industrial equipment, piping, instrumentation, controls, and integrated plant systems
  • Working knowledge of rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, and motors
  • Ability to operate independently and make sound technical decisions in dynamic field environments
  • Strong communication skills with technical teams, operations personnel, customers, and senior stakeholders Relevant Industry Backgrounds

The strongest transferable backgrounds involve complex industrial systems where the engineer has personally participated in startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, or plant operations. Ideal Candidate Profile The strongest candidate is a senior industrial engineer who has spent meaningful time around operating plants and equipment. They can understand how multiple engineering disciplines interact, identify technical risks, troubleshoot unfamiliar problems, and work directly with field personnel and customers. This role is especially well suited for someone who can clearly explain what they personally owned, analyzed, decided, and resolved during complex commissioning or startup situations.   • Based in Danbury, Connecticut with office activity also possible in Torrington
  • Part time remote flexibility
  • Field activity across Connecticut, California, and selected international locations
  • Approximately 10% travel
