Technical Lead

We're hiring a Technical / Systems Lead to help bring a breakthrough ophthalmic imaging device from university prototype to commercial reality. Gateway Photonics is an early-stage medical device startup developing a next-generation imaging platform built on cutting edge technology. We're looking for a strong systems engineer to own system-level product development and help guide the product toward verification, design freeze, and FDA submission. In this role, you will: Lead system architecture and product requirements Translate clinical and user needs into clear, testable specifications Coordinate across optics, hardware, software, and external partners Support design controls, risk management, verification, and technical documentation Help transform advanced prototype technology into a robust, commercial-grade product We're especially interested in candidates with experience in: Medical devices or other regulated product development Systems engineering across multidisciplinary technologies Prototype-to-product transition FDA design controls, verification/validation, and risk-based development Ophthalmic devices, imaging systems, optics, or diagnostic instrumentation This is a high-impact opportunity to work closely with the founding team, shape core product decisions, and help build a device that can expand access to vision care.
