Entry-Level Structural Dam Safety Engineer

  • Entry-Level Structural Dam Safety Engineer
  • to work as part of our East Region Dams Practice located in our Germantown, Maryland office as an Entry Level Structural Dam Safety Engineer. This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join the

  • Responsibilities include:
  • + Provide technical support to dam project managers, including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams.
+ Perform dam analysis and design such as structural stability and strength analysis of concrete dams and appurtenant structures (spillways, outlet works, and other site civil structures).+ Prepare structural evaluation reports, drawings, and specifications for dam projects.+ Prepare structural details and drawings in AutoCAD.+ Conduct field observations and site visits for dam safety inspections and dam construction oversight.+ Progression toward greater responsibility, including task and project management and certification as a professional engineer.
  • Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • + Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Structural Engineering. + Valid U.S. Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review. + Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • + Previous internship experience related to dams and hydraulic structures.
+ Ability and desire to occasionally travel to project sites, both local and remote. + Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills. + Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment. + Exhibits initiative, responsibility and flexibility. + Resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to detail. + Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. + Effective time-management and interpersonal skills. + Ability to work independently and in a team environment. + Strong desire to learn along with professional drive. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering exam or ability to complete within 12-months of hire. + Proven coursework and/or background in structural engineering including reinforced concrete design, statics, and mechanics of materials.
