Senior Dam Safety Engineer Location:
Buffalo, NY (Hybrid / Remote Considered for Qualified Candidates)

Full-Time About Our Client Our Client is a growing engineering and environmental consulting firm specializing in water resources, renewable energy, geotechnical engineering, civil infrastructure, and environmental restoration. They are seeking an experienced Senior Dam Safety Engineer to join their leadership team and support dam safety, geotechnical engineering, and water resources projects throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. This is a leadership opportunity for a highly experienced engineer with extensive dam safety expertise who can lead technical projects, mentor engineering staff, develop client relationships, and support business growth. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage dam safety evaluations, inspections, and engineering design projects. Perform FERC Part 12 inspections and dam safety evaluations for federal and state-regulated dams. Conduct geotechnical investigations and engineering analyses for earthen embankments, dams, and related civil infrastructure. Design earthen embankments and evaluate existing dam structures. Develop geotechnical investigation, monitoring, and testing programs and analyze resulting data. Prepare and review engineering reports, technical documents, specifications, and construction plans. Develop construction sequencing plans and assist with permitting activities. Lead technical meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and public stakeholders. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across multiple projects. Support proposal development, project scheduling, cost estimating, and business development initiatives. Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality projects. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Master's Degree preferred. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license. Willingness to maintain PE registrations in multiple Northeastern states. Approved FERC Part 12 Independent Consultant , or qualified to obtain approval immediately. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong leadership, project management, and client relationship skills. Preferred Experience 15+ years of experience in: Dam safety evaluations and engineering design Geotechnical engineering for dams and water-retaining structures Project management Geotechnical investigations, testing, and monitoring programs Embankment earthquake response analysis Client management and technical mentoring Proposal preparation and business development Experience with risk-based dam safety analyses. Familiarity with federal and state dam safety regulations and standards. Additional experience in one or more of the following is considered a plus: Grouting repairs Hydrology and hydraulics Structural engineering related to dam safety Travel Requirements Travel to project sites throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Remote candidates should be available for onboarding activities and occasional office visits.
