Job Description

Job Title:
Environmental Technician - First Shift Job Description The Environmental Technician will work on first shift at a waste management facility in Hatfield, PA, handling and organizing drums of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. This role involves transporting, identifying, and properly segregating various materials while following strict safety and environmental regulations. It is an excellent entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the environmental industry with a team that prioritizes safety, employee care, and sustainable growth. Responsibilities Transport labeled drums of waste safely throughout the facility using appropriate equipment and procedures. Identify and verify the contents of drums to determine which substances they contain. Separate hazardous waste from non-hazardous waste and ensure each type is placed in the correct warehouse area. Load and unload drums onto and off trucks in a safe, efficient, and organized manner. Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations while handling, storing, and moving waste materials. Work both indoors and outdoors, including on uneven surfaces, while maintaining a strong focus on safety. Collaborate with team members to maintain a clean, orderly, and compliant work area. Use knowledge of environmental science, biology, or chemistry to support proper waste handling and classification. Participate in training and certification opportunities, including the 40-hour HAZWOPER, as required. Demonstrate a positive, "want to work" attitude and contribute to a culture of safety and employee care. Essential Skills Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or Chemistry OR at least one year of experience in a related industry. Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds throughout the workday. Ability to stand and walk over uneven surfaces for extended periods. Ability to work outdoors in all climate conditions and indoors in non-climate-controlled conditions. Strong safety mindset with a willingness to follow established protocols and procedures. Reliable, positive attitude with a strong desire to work and learn in the environmental field. Basic understanding of environmental science principles and hazardous materials handling. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 40-hour
HAZWOPER
certification (nice to have; can be obtained on the job). Experience in the environmental field, including soil sampling or hazardous waste handling, is a plus. General labor experience involving materials handling or similar physical work. Familiarity with hazardous materials, hazardous waste regulations, and safe handling practices. Interest in building a long-term career in the environmental and waste management industry. Willingness to participate in ongoing training and internal advancement opportunities. Work Environment The role is based at an environmental and waste management facility in Hatfield, PA, with work performed approximately half outdoors and half indoors. The indoor areas may be non-climate-controlled, and the outdoor work occurs in all weather conditions. The position is physically demanding, requiring frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds, as well as standing and walking over uneven surfaces for extended periods. The team operates with a strong safety culture, following established safety protocols and using appropriate protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hatfield, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
