DEFINITION
: The purpose of this job/class within the organization is to safely operate and maintain the heavy equipment to support City facility maintenance operations. This job/class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(Not all-inclusive) : Operates heavy equipment including clam truck, hydraulic excavator, backhoes, front-end loader, asphalt patch truck, and bulldozers or other equipment in support of citywide maintenance and construction activities. Transports required equipment to the job site; assists in the loading and unloading of materials and equipment transported to the work site. Flushes drain pipes, cleans drain basins, cleans sewer lines, and jets through pipes; operates pumps of various sizes. Assists other departments in scheduled and emergency operations and all other requested work within safe operation of the equipment. Consults procedural documentation including vehicle manuals and maintenance manuals to ensure work is performed correctly. Maintains records including vehicle maintenance and gas receipts to document actions taken. Conducts routine minor maintenance of vehicles/equipment; maintains vehicles and equipment in a neat, clean and orderly fashion.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in heavy equipment maintenance or operations or closely related field. Requires six months experience in heavy equipment operations or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses:
Requires a Class A commercial driver's license, with air brakes and tanker endorsement required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
