Job Description

Summary The Emergency Response Team (ERT) Commander performs functions to manage, plan, control, direct and coordinate the activities of members of the security force assigned to the Emergency Response Team (ERT). The Emergency Response Team (ERT) Commander ensures environmental compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations including NASA programs or contractual requirements as related to the business of the unit or section accountable for overall performance in accordance with company strategic and operational goals, objectives, and budgets. After completion of required NASA Federal Arrest Authority and if required, Federal Magistrate Program Training, the Officer will act in the capacity of a law enforcement officer and have arrest and apprehension authority on the
NASA KSC
installation. Responsibilities Responsible for planning, staffing, training, performance evaluation, discipline, time reporting and policy and procedural direction for the Emergency Response Team. Direct the day-to-day operation of the ERT. Ensure officers are trained in weapons usage and special skills. Maintain records with the Training Section of individual officer's performance and training as well as ERT equipment. Develops and oversees weekly training seminars to include curriculum development tactics, launch operations, weapons training, hostage situations, emergency responses, physical and mental conditioning. Oversee compliance with Union contract, operations procedures, company policy, and special procedures. Interprets and ensures consistent application of organizational policies. Administer disciplinary action as required. Ensures all requirements are staffed appropriately. Submit budgetary criteria to maintain ERT operations and training. Serve as property custodian of K6-2496 Armory and associated office equipment. Submit yearly and quarterly training plans to the Training Section through the Chief of Security. Ensures compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA, laws and regulations and requirements and KSC energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of this branch, working within the limits of established policy. Supervises and manages the ERT program. As a critical position will be required to report and remain available for emergency duty in expectation of a hurricane, other disaster, or declared emergency. Qualifications High School diploma and 10 Years as a Law enforcement supervisor experience. 10 years as a SWAT Officer. Preferred completion of an
FBI SWAT
course or equivalent. Must have training/experience in SWAT related curriculum development. Must be able to obtain and maintain secret clearance Must possess and maintain a valid Florida state driver's license. Must be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications and complete a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory -2 (MMPI-2) and Shipley Institute of Living Scale psychological examinations. Have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture. Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual's reliability including those crimes classified under the Lautenburg Act. Honorably discharged (If Applicable) Must be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons. Must be able to pass and maintain NASA Federal Arrest Authority (FAA) certification.
