SUMMARY:
? The ESL Teacher Aide integrates relevant teaching practices in grammar, writing, listening-speaking, and reading in an inclusive environment that develops students' language as well as the cultural awareness that they will need to thrive. The District ESL Aide - English as a Second Language position is employed to assist a teacher or teachers in teacher supervised instructional and non-instructional tasks working with students in classrooms. The person occupying the position reports directly to his/her assigned teacher. This is a non-tenured position and is subject to annual review.? The District ESL Aide is responsible for the efficient performance of assigned activities, including those described below.? ?
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
? Part-time 5 ½ hours per day, five days per week. Not to exceed 30 hours per week. Hourly position during the academic school year.? ?
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
? Mostly indoors in a classroom setting. Occasionally work in an outdoor recess or gym class setting.?Physical requirements include bending and stooping.

?? High school diploma is a preferred requirement or GED? Good communication skills and be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff Should be flexible in adapting to student needs and various teaching styles ? ?
SPECIFIC POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
?In conducting this role, the essential duties of the District ESL Aide for English as a Second Language position shall include, but are not limited to the following:?? Performs instructional and non-instructional activities as assigned and supervised by the teacher/supervisor? Supervises pupils in the school and community as assigned? Utilizes positive behavior support strategies to effectively manage student behavior.? Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a team Displays competence and good judgment in dealing with any physical and/or medical emergency which might arise Demonstrates ability to utilize technology? Collaborates with the teacher to assist in developing an educational program that will be directed toward the development of academic, communication, and social/emotional skills? Adheres to Federal, State, IU, District, and other applicable procedures, policies, and regulations as well as participation in District approved in-service training? Assisting with
Classroom Management:
Help maintain a positive and orderly learning environment by managing student behavior and reinforcing classroom rules.?
Supporting Instruction:
Assist the teacher with delivering lessons, working with small groups or individual students, and providing additional help where needed.?
Preparing Materials:
Help prepare instructional materials, such as worksheets, presentations, and classroom displays.?
Supervising Students:
Monitor students during activities, such as recess, lunch, or field trips, and provide supervision in the classroom.?
Clerical Tasks:
Perform administrative duties such as grading assignments, taking attendance, and organizing student records.? Assisting with
Special Needs:
Provide additional support to students with special needs, including implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and offering one-on-one assistance as applicable..?
Classroom Setup:
Assist with setting up the classroom, arranging furniture, and organizing supplies and resources.?
Encouraging Student Engagement:
Foster a positive learning environment by encouraging student participation and engagement in activities.? Spanish proficiency preferred but not required. Strong ability to provide effective and engaging ESL instruction. Cultural competence in working with diverse populations, including various ethnic communities, immigrants and persons of various ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, health status, and abilities.
