As a Supervisor Trainee, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting exciting events, helping coordinate daily operations, and working alongside a hardworking team to create great experiences for our guests and community. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys teamwork, problem-solving, skilled trades, and fast-paced event environments while preparing for a future leadership role. The Supervisor Trainee is a developmental role designed to prepare the individual for a supervisory career in facility and event management. Under the moderate supervision of the Conference Center Manager, the trainee will learn to direct daily operations, coordinate event conversions (expo halls, meeting spaces, and livestock arenas), and lead maintenance activities. This position blends hands-on skilled labor with structured leadership training to ensure the flawlessly executed delivery of Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center events. Essential Functions The following essential functions serve as a general guide for this position. Position functions are subject to change based on departmental needs and external factors including, but not limited to, regulatory requirements. Learns and assists in direct, first-level supervision of staff and activities; Participates in shadowing the interview process, staff training, work assignment reviews, and performance evaluations; Learns to interpret event data sheets to prepare facility setups and teardowns; Assists in the layout of events and helps develop setup timelines; Participates in and oversees the general cleaning, setup, and strike-down of conference and livestock events, including the operation of basic audiovisual equipment; Performs and learns to supervise minor repairs involving mechanical, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing tasks for buildings and grounds; Operates and maintains heavy equipment (forklifts, tractors, scissor lifts) while learning the technical requirements for maintaining arena footing and event structures; Assists in scheduling work assignments for crews and ensures all necessary safety equipment and supplies are available; Provides professional information and directions to the public and guests, ensuring high customer service standards; Maintains related records and reports to track operational efficiency and maintenance cycles; Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in hospitality, event settings, maintenance, or a lead worker role. Progressive interest in moving into a management capacity is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of supervisory principles and a strong desire to develop leadership, coaching, and disciplinary skills; Ability to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in following event diagrams and requirements; Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, contractors, and event organizers; Technical aptitude for troubleshooting audiovisual equipment and performing minor facility repairs; Ability to work a flexible schedule dictated by event needs, including late nights and weekends. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, CCACC staff, and guests. Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 30 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; loading and unloading up to 100 pounds from trucks; pushing/pulling chair and table racks with handcart; wear uniform at all times; wear proper safety clothing and gear when needed; safely use equipment such as a man-lift, lifting portable staging, work regularly requires prolonged standing, walking, work has standard vision requirements; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas orally; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work requires operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, Work will be variable hours to include late nights, weekends and holidays based upon work load and schedule; follow the policy and procedures set forth by the CCACC. Will be required to perform all job tasks using Federal, State, County, and CCACC safety guidelines and precautions. Stamina to work long hours and to multitask when needed or where applicable. Special Requirements Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Must be fingerprinted and successfully pass a Criminal History Record Check with the NCSBI. Must be willing and able to work late nights and weekends based on event needs.
