JOB TITLE:
Exceptional Children Assistant Program Director
FLSA STATUS
EXEMPT 11 Months
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Exceptional Children Assistant Program Director supports the planning, development, coordination, supervision, administration, and evaluation of the LEA's Exceptional Children program. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Program Director to provide guidance and leadership to exceptional children personnel. Duties and responsibilities are performed under the general supervision of the Program Director. The Assistant Director maintains cooperative relationships with principals, school personnel, related service agencies, and parents. The Assistant Director assists in ensuring the program operates in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws governing exceptional children's programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists in identifying existing exceptional children program resources available in the LEA; Supports research and implementation of best practices for exceptional students consistent with federal, state, and local directives; Assists in developing and implementing service alternatives for students with disabilities; Supports the writing, submission, administration, and evaluation of grants; Collaborates in the allocation of teacher and support personnel resources based on prioritized needs; Assists with conducting headcount in accordance with state and federal guidelines; Supports the development and implementation of Child-Find procedures to identify unserved students; Coordinates with other school systems and agencies to support services for students; Assists in recruitment, selection, and placement of instructional and support staff; Recommends and supports the selection of instructional materials and equipment; Collaborates with Auxiliary Services to support space and service location decisions; Assists in developing and delivering staff development aligned with state and federal guidelines; Works closely with regular education staff to support inclusive practices and joint initiatives. Provides direct support to school-based staff in program implementation, compliance, and problem-solving; Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director or supervisor.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL

REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree in a related field of Special Education A minimum of five years of successful experience in the field of special education Knowledge of best practices for working with the adult learner Strong verbal presentation, written communication, and interpersonal skills Administrative Experience at the department/program, building, or system level
