  • Full-time, Contract About Alamogordo MainStreet Alamogordo MainStreet is a nonprofit downtown revitalization organization dedicated to economic development, historic preservation, placemaking, small business support, and community engagement within the downtown district.
Working in partnership with the City of Alamogordo, New Mexico MainStreet, Main Street America, local businesses, property owners, volunteers, and community organizations, Alamogordo MainStreet leads projects, programs, and events that strengthen downtown as the cultural and economic heart of Otero County. Position Summary The Executive Director serves as the chief administrative and operational leader of Alamogordo MainStreet and is responsible for implementing the organization's mission, strategic priorities, projects, partnerships, fundraising initiatives, and daily operations. This position requires a highly motivated, organized, relationship-driven professional capable of balancing long-term strategic planning with day-to-day program execution. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, government partners, business owners, volunteers, and community stakeholders to advance downtown revitalization efforts and organizational sustainability. The position requires occasional evening and weekend work for meetings, events, public engagement, and special projects. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Leadership & Administration Oversee daily operations of the organization. Develop and manage annual organizational budgets. Maintain financial records and ensure responsible fiscal management practices. Prepare reports, invoices, and required documentation for funding partners and governmental entities. Ensure compliance with requirements established by New Mexico MainStreet, Main Street America, state agencies, federal agencies, and grant programs. Work alongside the Board of Directors to develop annual work plans, strategic priorities, and organizational goals. Attend and provide reports during Board of Directors meetings. Project & Program Management Serve as the primary manager for projects, programs, initiatives, and events led by Alamogordo MainStreet. Coordinate timelines, contractors, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders associated with organizational initiatives. Assist with implementation of downtown revitalization, beautification, economic development, and placemaking projects. Develop systems to track organizational metrics, community impact, volunteer engagement, and project outcomes. Grant Writing & Fund Development Research and pursue grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities. Prepare grant applications, supporting documentation, and required reports. Assist the Board of Directors with fundraising efforts, sponsorship development, donor cultivation, and revenue diversification strategies. Build and maintain relationships with funding agencies, sponsors, and philanthropic partners. Community Relations & Partnership Development Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with local businesses, elected officials, community organizations, property owners, government agencies, volunteers, and stakeholders. Represent Alamogordo MainStreet through public speaking engagements, media interviews, meetings, conferences, and community events. Serve as an advocate for downtown revitalization and economic development initiatives. Marketing & Communications Serve as a primary public representative and spokesperson for the organization through media appearances, public presentations, community engagement, marketing campaigns, and stakeholder outreach. Lead marketing and public communication efforts for the organization, including promotion of downtown businesses, events, projects, and initiatives. Assist with development of advertising campaigns, promotional materials, press releases, social media content, newsletters, and public outreach strategies. Coordinate with media outlets, community partners, businesses, and contractors to promote organizational initiatives and community engagement. Maintain and strengthen the public image and visibility of Alamogordo MainStreet through consistent communication and storytelling efforts. Support photography, video, website, and digital marketing efforts associated with organizational programs and revitalization projects. Volunteer & Event Coordination Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers participating in organizational programs and events. Assist in planning and execution of community events, promotions, and public engagement activities. Support collaboration between volunteers, committees, partner organizations, and project teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience in nonprofit management, economic development, downtown revitalization, community development, project management, or related fields. Experience managing budgets, grants, and organizational operations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience working with boards, volunteers, public agencies, and community stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Strong organizational, leadership, and relationship-building skills. Experience with marketing, branding, social media management, public relations, or community outreach. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and general office technology. Grant writing and fundraising experience preferred. Work Environment This position includes a combination of office work, community engagement, event coordination, public meetings, and project oversight in outdoor environments. Evening meetings and occasional weekend work are expected.
