This position provides technical support, tracks and reports on sample results, prepares invoices, and communicates between the Lab, the Illinois EPA Bureau of Water, and public water supply clients to resolve sampling and analysis issues. The ideal candidate will have experience in lab analysis, using a laboratory information management system, and interpreting and applying the Safe Drinking Water Information System. Essential Functions Serves as Project Liaison for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Division of Laboratories (DOL). Administers the Community Water Supply Testing Program (CWSTP). Assists with the coordination of laboratory programs. Collaborates on reports of Program issues and audit findings for presentation to the Division Manager. Assists with training programs and workshops for DOL. Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumeratedabove. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably withcoursework in Chemistry at a recognized college or university. Requires one year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, or completion of anagency approved professional management training program. Specialized Skills (Used for certain BU Employees only) Requires one year of experience in the utilization of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), to includecreating PWS clients, projects, and schedules. Requires one year of experience utilizing laboratory databases. Requires one year of experience in laboratory analytical techniques and laboratory programs. Requires one year of experience in interpreting and applying Safe Drinking Water Information System, (SDWIS) and intracking and maintaining sample counts for Public Water Supply samples. Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance) Prefers at least (1) one year of experience in the utilization of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), toinclude creating PWS clients, projects, and schedules. Prefers at least (1) one year of experience utilizing laboratory databases. Prefers at least (1) one year of experience in Laboratory Analytical Techniques and Laboratory Programs. Prefers at least (1) one year of experience in interpreting and applying Safe Drinking Water Information System, (SDWIS). Prefers at least (1) one year of experience in tracking and maintaining sample counts for Public Water Supply samples. Prefers ability to analyze administrative problems and adopt an effective course of action. Prefers ability to develop, install and evaluate new and revised methods, procedures, and performance standards. Prefers ability to exercise judgment and discretion in developing, implementing, and interpreting departmental policies andprocedures. Prefers ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships. Conditions of Employment Requires a valid and current appropriate drivers' license. Requires the ability to travel in performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime includingscheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends. Requires ability to attend seminars, conference, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, or other industry relatedtopics to the job duties.
