Brunswick, GA Duties:
As an Exercise Physiologist, you will make a direct impact on the physical fitness and training program used throughout U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) by serving as a headquarters' technical authority in exercise science. In this role, you will provide expert consultation in the development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of CBP physical training and rehabilitation programs to reduce the frequency and severity of physical training related injuries. This position starts at a salary of $106,437.00. Utilize your knowledge of exercise, physical training, performance, safety/injury prevention, and recovery in working with an elite team of professionals in one of the world's largest law enforcement organizations.
Typical duties include:
Providing evidence-based expertise and advice to multiple CBP academy physical exercise and physical training programs, as well as to academy administrative and operational field locations. Reviewing physical training and performance requirements of trainees and incumbents' program curricula by observing and assessing practices and techniques for both efficacy and potential high-risk factors for physical injury to both trainees and staff. Developing and leading health and human performance-based training, aimed at educating academy's physical training staff, trainees, and management. Preparing comprehensive written reports and delivering oral presentations on findings and recommendations. Representing Occupational Safety and Health Division management officials in briefings to CBP academy administration and training staff, CBP headquarters, related DHS components, and other Federal agency officials, as appropriate. Developing and conducting injury prevention initiatives and fitness surveys for incumbent trainees, trainees, and academy staff.
Salary and Benefits:
This position starts at a salary of $106,437.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $138,370.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $138,370.00 (GS-13, Step 10). Education:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: Major study in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Human Performance and/or a related degree. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Copies of your transcripts must be submitted at the time of your application.
Experience:
You qualify for this GS-13 grade level Exercise Physiologist opportunity if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level performing duties such as: Evaluating, developing, or reviewing physical training curricula and performance standards for law enforcement, military, or academy settings, ensuring alignment with evidence-based exercise science principles. Designing and implementing injury prevention programs, conducting root-cause analysis of training-related injuries, and applying risk management strategies to reduce musculoskeletal injuries in high-risk environments. Administering, analyzing, and interpreting physical fitness and human performance assessments (e.g., aerobic capacity, strength, power, agility), and utilizing analytical tools or methodologies to evaluate program effectiveness and inform recommendations. Providing direct, evidence-based exercise physiology support in operational or field environments, including observing training sessions, assessing movement techniques, and advising on exercise prescription and injury risk for diverse populations (e.g., trainees, incumbents, staff). Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including medical professionals, safety officers, and training staff, to integrate exercise science, health, and safety best practices into organizational training and wellness programs. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 05/15/2026. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years.
