Job Description
Overview Position for the 26-27 school year starting August 19th, 2026, and possibly summer ESY starting June 9th 2026. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher with Autism Specialty to join our dynamic educational team. In this role, you will play a vital part in creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment for students with autism and other developmental disabilities. Your expertise will help foster growth, independence, and confidence in your students while collaborating closely with families, therapists, and school staff. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children by implementing innovative teaching strategies tailored to individual needs. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field Current Missouri Special Education Teaching Certificate Experience teaching children with Autism is preferred Responsibilities Design, implement, and oversee students' Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and behavior management plans Administer assessments as needed Document anecdotal data for IEP goals and behavioral observations to monitor student progress Create academic lesson plans in core subjects that align with Missouri learning standards, ensuring they are modified to meet students' needs Provide creative multimodal instruction tailored to each student Supply teacher assistants with activities that support IEP goals Collaborate with the team to develop student behavior intervention plans Write quarterly progress reports Attend IEP meetings to communicate students' progress on goals Participate in parent conferences to relay information about student progress Work effectively with a team of professionals to coordinate services, assess abilities, and devise behavioral strategies for students Implement evidence-based strategies for students with Autism Train staff on behavior management and effective instructional strategies for students with Autism Engage in staff development training focusing on working with students with Autism Must have no physical limitations; candidates should be able to lift at least 25 lbs and maintain mobility Must be able to participate in the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) model of physical restraint
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Knowledge of effective teaching strategies for young children with Autism Understanding of autism and proven ability to implement best practices related to instruction and behavior management for students with Autism Familiarity with Special Education principles, theories, strategies, testing, etc. Competence in implementing differentiated instruction based on student data and individual needs Effective communication skills with students, parents, staff, and administrators Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with other staff and outside therapists Strong organizational skills and adaptability Proficient writing and communication skillsJob Type:
