Extra Duty MechanicQUALIFICATIONS
High School Graduate or GED Have or be willing to obtain the required WV Inspectors License to perform vehicle inspections Possess a valid CDL license Pass state developed tests to indicate minimum competencies in each area of job classification as title or hold/have held such title of employment with a county board of education Demonstrate success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of and proficiency in mechanical repair of school automobiles, buses, trucks and other mechanical and mobile vehicles Prior verifiable experience and/or training as a mechanic preferredEMPLOYMENT TERM
2025-2026 School Year Maximum of 10 hours per week, unless prior approval is granted by Transportation Director Must be able to work a flexible schedule between 8:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Diagnose and repair all automotive, buses and truck equipment (knowledge to use related tools and equipment) Make immediate vehicular repairs when defects are discovered Report vehicle and equipment deficiencies to Transportation Director and/or Chief Mechanic Communicate with drivers to insure understanding of malfunctions or complaints on vehicles Attend training sessions as scheduled by Transportation Director Keep current on information pertaining to automotive, buses and truck repair Be able to communicate, read, write and perform simple mathematical computations common to the trade and follow written instructions Help to promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas Be knowledgeable of emergency procedures, and prepared to respond to emergency situations at any time Willing to work overtime and/or a flexible schedule when necessary Assist in the receipt and issuance of part and supplies and the keeping of records and inventories Record all work completed and time required properly, including body or chassis work Return tools and equipment to proper location after use Road test all vehicles after completion of repairs if necessary Perform routine scheduled preventative maintenance inspections for assigned vehicles Prepare vehicles for state inspections if necessary. Assist in maintaining a current inventory of supplies and equipment Assist in keeping an updated active file on maintenance and service records of vehicles in the fleet Display positive and proactive work habits Employee understands that he/she must have the health, physical stamina and be capable of performing heavy work as needed during course of performing duties of extra duty mechanic. Have ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with others Maintain positive communication with the chain of command Perform such other tasks, duties and assume such other responsibilities that may, from time to time, be assigned by the Superintendent or Transportation Director.SALARY:
