EXTRA HELP (FIRE)

Extra-Help / Fire Recruit Auburndale Fire Department

MAJOR FUNCTION

Perform / assist in normal fire department cleaning and maintenance. Assisting with station tours and visitors as well as shadowing on emergency calls. Work is performed under the supervision of the Company Officer. Eligible applicants may not be a full-time Firefighter/EMT employed by another agency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Responsible for keeping the station and equipment clean and presentable. Doing so will require regular janitorial type duties as well as assisting with routine maintenance and cleaning of fire apparatus and equipment. The recruit will also assist in training and studying basic firefighting and medical skills. Performs related non- essential duties as required. This position is intended to identify potential future Auburndale Firefighters. Extra-Help recruits may be afforded the opportunity be sponsored through the city to attend minimum fire and medical training to become a full time Firefighter / EMT.

KNOWLEDGE, EDCUCATION, EXPERIENCE

Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to remain in good physical condition. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (i.e., verbally and written). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, other federal, state and local governmental representatives, civic groups and the general public is essential. Prefer successful candidate to have experience and knowledge with common hand tools and small engines. Candidate must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
