Job Title:
Fabrication Associate Job Description This role focuses on operating glass fabrication equipment, particularly edging machines, to produce high-quality glass panels that meet strict dimensional and quality standards. The fabrication associate works in a production environment, coordinating with other production lines, performing routine equipment maintenance, and following established safety guidelines while contributing to continuous improvement in quality and safety practices. Responsibilities Set up and operate edging machines to polish glass panel edges according to production specifications. Coordinate with the cut line and temper line to prioritize workflow and maintain efficient production. Inspect glass panels to ensure cutting and polishing meet required specifications and quality standards. Measure final glass dimensions for accuracy and verify that they meet specified tolerances. Report any quality, dimensional, or process issues to the supervisor promptly. Assist with routine preventive maintenance on edging and related production equipment. Check polishing tools for wear and notify the supervisor when replacements are needed. Clean and organize the edger work area at the end of each shift to maintain a safe and efficient workspace. Clean the edger washing machine after each shift to ensure proper operation and cleanliness. Ensure all products meet internal quality standards, which align with or exceed half of ASTM standards. Follow all established safety guidelines, procedures, and best practices while performing daily tasks. Provide feedback and suggestions for safety improvements to help enhance the overall safety culture. Participate in general production activities, including loading and unloading materials as needed. Use hand tools and measuring devices, such as tape measures, accurately during fabrication processes. Review and sign the employee handbook prior to starting work and adhere to all policies outlined. Essential Skills Experience operating production or fabrication machinery, including machine operation and machine operating in a manufacturing environment. Ability to set up and operate edging or similar fabrication machines safely and efficiently. Proficiency using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions accurately. Experience with general production tasks, including loading and unloading materials. Familiarity with fabrication processes and hand tool use in an industrial or production setting. Strong attention to detail when inspecting products to ensure they meet specified quality and dimensional standards. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, safety guidelines, and standard operating procedures. Capability to identify equipment or tool wear and communicate maintenance needs to supervision. Comfort working in a structured production environment with defined workflows and priorities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Expereine in the furniture industry or similar manufacturing environments, as people with this experience tend to perform well in this role. Experience working with glass or other fragile materials in a production or fabrication setting. Familiarity with quality standards related to ASTM or similar industry benchmarks. Willingness to provide feedback on safety practices and participate in continuous improvement efforts. Ability to coordinate tasks with multiple production lines and adapt to changing workflow priorities. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a production facility operating Monday through Friday from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the first day starting at 8:00 a.m. for an initial meeting and orientation. You will work around edging machines, washing equipment, and other production machinery, handling glass panels and participating in loading and unloading activities. The environment emphasizes adherence to safety procedures, including restrictions such as not using headphones while driving a forklift or similar equipment. The dress code allows practical and comfortable attire suitable for a production floor, including tank tops with straps greater than 1 inch that provide full coverage, shorts that are not excessively short, and leggings worn with shirts long enough to cover the backside. The facility expects employees to maintain a clean and organized work area and to follow all guidelines outlined in the employee handbook, which must be reviewed and signed prior to starting work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $19.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
