Job Description

The School District of La Farge is seeking a full time custodian to join our Facilities & Grounds Team. The technician will perform custodial duties along with general maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment, in order to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment for our students, staff, visitors, and guests. Applicants who are open to a gradual transition into a management position are desired. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours within 1st/2nd shift during the school year (September
  • May), and 1st shift (6am
  • 2:30pm) during the summer months (June
  • August) and school breaks, along with the ability to work occasional weekends and on-call hours.
Reliability, dependability, and punctuality are expected.
Qualified candidates will have:
High school degree / GED, and two years of progressive occupational experience or directly related Vocational Degree and one year of progressive occupational experience. This position requires unrestricted physical mobility on a regular and consistent basis for the majority of the workday. Must be capable of continuously standing, walking, stair climbing, reaching, handling and gripping without difficulty, repetitive movement of both hands and arms, as well as frequent lifting and moving items with a maximum weight of 80 lbs a short distance, and pushing or pulling heavier items with the use of a cart or dolly. Valid driver's license required. Some specific demonstrable knowledge or experience with regard to entry-level facilities & grounds maintenance, cleaning and related equipment. Must be able to work independently, effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines Ability to use equipment and hand tools such as ladders, shovels, etc Ability to operate indoor machinery and power tools such as floor cleaning machine, and outdoor machinery such as tractor, snowblower, riding lawn mower, weed eater, power washer, etc. Ability to work occasional weekends/on call hours Tolerance for and ability to work with chemicals, disinfectants, waxes, etc Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, contractors, students, visitors and peers Basic computer skills Ability to pass a pre-employment background check Preferred candidates will have: Experience with facility and grounds maintenance in a high capacity building environment (school, business, nursing home, etc) Knowledge of/experience with general maintenance work, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, and painting.
