Corn detassel: Perform manual labor to detassel seed corn by walking through corn fields, reaching to pull off the tassel off the corn plant and throwing it to the ground by hand. Bend down to remove rogue plants, weeds, and volunteer corn plants from seed corn production fields, as instructed by supervisors. Long-sleeved shirts and long pants are recommended to minimize contact with the plants and thereby reduce the exposure to cuts and scrapes caused by the corn plants. Perform prolonged bending, reaching, and walking over uneven ground in either dusty or muddy conditions. May have to work outside in extremely wet, humid, and hot conditions. Workers are expected to possess the skills to work in the production of crops listed in this job order. The introductory period for all crop activities is 2 days starting with the first day of employment to acclimate the worker to the physical demands of farm work and to familiarize workers with job specifications and to demonstrate proper detasseling methods and other crop specific issues. Operational specifications can change during the season due to crop or market conditions. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each day's work. Instructions and general supervision will be provided by the employer or designated employee. Workers will have close supervision to ensure adherence to instructions. Work will be closely monitored and reviewed for quality. Daily individual work assignments, crew assignments, and location of work will be made by the employer or designated employee as the needs of the operation dictate. Workers may be assigned a variety of duties on any given day and different tasks on different days. Workers will be expected to perform any of the listed duties and work on any crop as assigned by the worker's supervisor. During certain duties, workers may be required to work in teams to accomplish a certain task. When engaged in teamwork activates workers must coordinate with other members of the team to accomplish the task. The employer is drug-free. Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor. Workers must carefully handle tools, equipment, and crops in a manner to avoid injury or damage. The employer will comply with all Federal, State, and local safety requirements. The employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker. The employer will charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the worker's refusal or negligent failure to return the tools or due to such worker's willful damage or destruction of the tools. The worker understands that if the worker quits or is terminated for cause prior to the end of the period of employment, the worker will not receive the ¾ guarantees discussed and will not receive outbound transportation reimbursements. Excessive tardiness and/or absences will not be tolerated and will result in termination. Harvesting specifications can change from time to time during the season due to crop or market conditions, even on the same crop. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each day's work. To view full details and how to apply, please login or create a Job Seeker account
