Your New Job Job Summary Rybex Infrastructure Group is seeking motivated Fiber Optic Splicers with 0-5 years of experience to install, splice, test, and maintain fiber optic cable systems for new builds and existing network upgrades. Candidates must be safety-focused, able to work independently or in small teams in the field, and willing to travel to job sites as needed. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables per project specifications and industry standards.
  • Prepare cable ends: stripping, cleaning, cleaving, and protecting splices using heat-shrink sleeves, splice trays, or splice enclosures.
  • Install, terminate, and polish fiber connectors (e.g., LC, SC, ST) and prepare patch panels and distribution frames.
  • Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing to validate fiber performance; document loss, reflectance, and continuity results.
  • Troubleshoot fiber faults, perform fault locating, and execute repairs or reroutes as required.
  • Install and secure aerial, buried, and conduit cabling; perform cable blowing and pulling where applicable.
  • Read and interpret network drawings, splice maps, and work orders; record and update as-built documentation and test reports.
  • Maintain fiber splicing tools and test equipment, ensuring calibration and proper functioning.
  • Follow safety protocols and company policies including confined-space, traffic control, and ladder/hoist safety; use appropriate PPE.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other field crews to meet schedule and quality targets.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians as experience increases; support onsite quality inspections and audits. Qualifications & Skills
  • 0-5 years of fiber splicing or fiber-optic field technician experience; entry-level candidates with relevant training or apprenticeship welcome.
  • Familiarity with fusion splicers, mechanical splices, OTDRs, power meters, and visual fault locators.
  • Basic understanding of single-mode vs. multi-mode fiber characteristics and loss/budget calculations.
  • Ability to read fiber schematics, splice maps, and technical drawings.
  • Strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license; clean driving record preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; able to complete accurate test reports and job logs.
  • Physical ability to perform fieldwork: lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, crawl in manholes, work outdoors in varied weather. Preferred Certifications (not required)
  • Fiber Optic Association (FOA) CFOT or equivalent
  • Manufacturer-specific fusion splicer certification
  • OSHA 10 or 30, CPR/First Aid
  • Utility/telecom industry safety certifications Working Conditions

  • Exposure to outdoor environments, confined spaces, and traffic.
