Field Network Technician

Position Overview:
We're seeking a Field Network Technician to support the deployment, remediation, maintenance, and upgrade of network and basic systems infrastructure across multiple branch locations. This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring frequent travel (approximately 50% of the time). The ideal candidate is a reliable, self-directed technician who can execute structured cabling and network hardware installs, assist with WAN/ISP turn-ups, validate wireless performance, and produce clear, timely documentation for a centralized support team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, terminate, label, and test Cat6 structured cabling (patch panels, keystones, faceplates) in office, warehouse, and post-construction environments
  • Install or modify raceway and conduit as needed in open-ceiling and industrial spaces
  • Mount and build out network racks/closets, including rack hardware, patch panels, switches, and routers
  • Install and validate wireless access points, confirming proper adoption/configuration and basic coverage expectations
  • Perform site surveys: validate drop locations vs floor plans, measure/document cable runs, identify MDF/IDF locations, assess conduit/rack needs, and produce a complete survey report on schedule
  • Troubleshoot and remediate field issues: trace and test runs, identify damaged cabling, and recommend repair or replacement solutions
  • Support ISP/WAN turn-ups: assist with demarc/hand-off readiness, document circuit details, and verify connectivity before leaving site
  • Estimate materials and plan work in advance (cable footage, drops, ports, lifts, and special hardware needs)
  • Provide timely documentation: marked-up floor plans, photos, completion notes, and checkout summaries
  • Provide regular status updates for multi-day work and escalate unexpected scope/conditions promptly Qualification Requirements
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently (including overnight travel)
  • Proven hands-on experience with Cat6 structured cabling (termination + testing)
  • Experience installing network racks, patch panels, switches, and routers
  • Understanding of cabling standards (e.g., TIA-568A/B) and basic networking concepts
  • Ability to perform field surveys and produce clear written documentation
  • Comfortable working at heights and in tight/confined spaces; able to lift/carry up to 75 lbs
  • Familiarity with common hand/power tools and basic jobsite safety practices
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently across multiple sites
  • Intermediate computer skills (email, documentation tools, basic Microsoft Office) Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-5 years' experience in low-voltage, structured cabling, field IT, or related roles
  • Industry certifications (examples: BICSI, Network+, OSHA 10/30)
  • Experience with fiber (pulls, splicing, OTDR) or wireless heat mapping/survey tools
  • Lift operation experience (boom/scissor) and/or construction or post-construction site work
  • Familiarity with IP-based security systems, UPS installation/verification, or basic helpdesk concepts This role is performed across varied sites (offices, warehouses, construction/brownfield locations) and may include unfinished spaces with limited climate control.
Candidates must be able to stand, climb, kneel, crouch, and work overhead for extended periods, and safely perform work using ladders and lifts as required
