Job Description Position Purpose:
Performs a variety of water and sewer infrastructure activities. The service work includes but is not limited to inspection, installation, repair and troubleshooting, and maintenance of water and sewer collection system.Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Water System Support :
Water meter reading, managing flushing programs for mains and dead-ends, and coordinating service shutoffs and restorations. Perform valve exercising and maintenance on water distribution system valves. Install and maintain fire hydrants, including flushing, painting, and repairs. Perform pressure testing on repaired water lines to ensure integrity. Inspect and maintain air release valves, pressure reducing valves, and blow-off assemblies Tap water mains for new service connectionsSewer Maintenance :
Cleaning and inspecting sanitary sewer mains and laterals using jet/vac trucks and CCTV cameras, and performing root removal.Infrastructure Repair :
Repairing or replacing damaged sewer pipes, fittings, manholes (including structural inspections), and sewer service lines from the main to the property line. Install, replace, and repair water meters, meter boxes, and service connections. Repair or replace water service lines from main to meterEmergency and Compliance :
Responding to water line breaks, sewer backups, overflows, and spills, and conducting inspections for grease traps and backflow preventers. Participate in on-call rotation for emergency response. Operation of heavy equipment including track excavators, dump trucks, sewer jetters.Work Environment:
Required to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, scaffolding and stairs. Required to work in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.Qualifications Education/Experience/Background:
High School Diploma/GED is required. 3 - 5 plus years of experience working in water and sewer collection systems.Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
Possession of NC Distribution and/or Collection System certifications, or ability to obtain. Valid NC Driver's License - Class A CDL or ability to obtain.Physical Requirements:
Required to wear a half face respirator or powered air respirators (PAPR) where proper safety procedures warrant their use. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb stairs or ladders; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
